Im not sure what appliance you are using but I had the same probs. until I
switched
to Cymeds drainable pouch. There is no flange & it is the best ive tried. And
ive tried many. Hope you find an adequate. solution.

Sharon, I feel for you!! I understand what you're going through. I had my
ileostomy done on 10/31/08, after emergency surgery. I was warned beforehand, I
might come out with an ostomy. The doctor didn't know what was going on.
Are you seeing a certified wound ostomy continence nurse? Or someone about your
ileostomy? If you saw one post op, call her/him also. I had no problems with
leakage, while in the hospital, but 2 days after leaving the hospital I started
having problems, and had problems until 12/15. On 12/5, I changed wound care
centers. When I went into see the CWOCN, I was scalded from my 2.5 cm out from
my stoma, to my left iliac crest. I had a full thickness wound 2.5 cm around my
stoma. A "normal" bag wouldn't stay on me without leaking for an
hour, much less a day, or now 3 days. On 12/12, I had completely new baby skin
from my stoma, to my iliac crest. Please do not let yours get to this point!!
I'm now

I hope those of you who have had an ostomy for years and have lots of
experience will be able to help me. I had my ileostomy on October 22nd, so
I'm still pretty new at this.
I can't seem to keep a good seal with my pouch. Two, at the most three,
days
after putting on a new pouch, and I get leakage where the wafer (is that
what it's called....still learning the terms) detaches. I think I'm
removing
all the old adhesive, making sure my skin is clean, and trying to always
make sure the opening of the pouch around my stoma fits up against my stoma,
but I have the same problem. Once in a great while I'll get a good seal and
don't have any leakage. What I did for that pouch change seems to be what I
always do, but when I change this non-leaking pouch after several days to a
week, I evidently do something wrong again, because I have leakage again.
Sometimes I have such a problem that the pouch lasts only a few hours before
the wafer starts to let go.
I have been using a stomadhesive powder because I have some uneven skin
close to my stoma, and it worked good for weeks when the unevenness covered
a larger area, but now that the "bumps" are right next to the stoma,
I don't
know if it's helping or hindering. I have also been using stomadhesive
paste. For a few times in the early weeks I used a co-adhesive wafer, and
they worked as well as the paste without the mess. But now whenever I use
the adhesive wafer, the pouch lets go in a section within a few hours.
If there are any tips you can give me, I'd appreciate it.
Sharon
