Connie,
This is very common, and occurred with me too. It is very tempting to just
start scratching like crazy once the wafer comes off at changing time, but you
just have to resist the urge otherwise your skin under your wafer will be peeled
away (easily I might add) and then you are in for a long recovery time just from
a few moments of scratching. I know, because I did it. The skin under the
wafer is not as tough after a while and can be easily damaged by scratching.
Once the skin is abraded, it weeps, and then NOTHING sticks to it. Which is
kind of a bad thing for ostomates. Good Luck

Subject: [The Ileostomy Group] itching
I've had my stoma for about 6 months now and so far no problems. Just lately I
have
started to have a lot of itching around the wafer and when I change my wafer
it itches
so bad I want to take a brillo pad and scratch it. Could I be having a
reaction to the
wafer after this long? Anyone have any ideas? I use a Natura Durahesive Fix
Barrier.
