This group is for European families who have a family member with isodicentric 15 (duplication 15)(parents/carers/grandparents/siblings etc)and related disorders. This site has been set up to chat with other European idic 15 families and any European language can be spoken. We would like to share information with each other and offer support. We would like to hopefully hold local meetings/days out in our native countries and visit our idic 15 friends in other European countries.
This site has been set up by 3 EU families from Italy, Germany and the UK.

What is idic 15?
Idic 15 is a very rare chromosome disorder where people have too much genetic material, usually in every cell in their body.
In addition to the 46 chromosomes that everyone has, they have a small additional chromosome, which is derived from chromosome 15. Chromosomes come in pairs, and the two normal chromosome 15s are present. The additional chromosome usually consists of two copies of the bit right at the top end of chromosome 15 joined end-to-end in mirror image. Idic 15 is also called SMC 15. Idic 15 stands for Isodicentric 15 and SMC 15 means supernumerary marker chromosome 15. Another name for idic 15 is inv dup 15 (Inverted Duplication 15). Different names – the same condition.

Children with idic 15 will not usually look any different from other children. Some parents have remarked that their children are exceptionally good-looking. Often having a cute button nose!
Medically: Seizures are a common feature of idic 15, but they certainly do not affect everyone.
