Please take a moment to welcome our new ICAN of Buffalo yahoogroup moderator, Christina! Christina is a mother of two beautiful children, and has been on the ICAN of Buffalo list for about two years. I’ll let her tell you more about herself J

I really appreciate seeing that there ladies out there who are willing to step up and keep ICAN of Buffalo afloat! If you are interested in chipping in and helping out, here are some ideas.  We need:

A chapter leader – which will not be so labor intensive if there are others taking on smaller roles!

A co-leader

A secretary

A treasurer

A librarian

Warm bodies willing to help out the above

Please note, the chapter leader MUST be an ICAN subscriber.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please let me know! Many hands make light work J

-Rachel

I don't have experience with this but I seem to remember people talking
about it on ICAN online. Sometimes it is adhesions, and a certain type
of massage has helped.

I seem to recall that a year or two ago there was someone here who was experiencing chronic pain after their cesarean, even more than two years after the fact.  I was wondering who has experienced this, and what they’ve done since – any diagnosis, what has helped, what has not.  There is a woman in Maryland who seems to be suffering from the same condition and is now one year post c/s.

Thanks,

Rachel

CL's, can you please pass this on to your local yahoogroups, we would LOVE to get some new faces for our new video!

------------

Dear women of ICAN, we want to hear YOUR story!

We are looking for women who were diagnosed with "Failure to Progress" (FTP) as a reason for your cesarean, and who subsequently had:

      - a fast birth, contrary to a care provider saying something akin to "your body just will

      NEVER dilate past X cm"

      - OR had another long labor, going past the time or dilation "stall" of the previous

"FTP" but then kept going and had your VBAC, showing that all that was needed was

patience for a body that liked to go slow

If you have a story that falls into the above categories, please email to youtube@... the following things:

1) a very short summary of the two births, including any pertinent quotes like "doc said my body just wouldn't dilate past a 4..." or "I gave up because after 24 hours at 5 cm I was told I'd never progress..."  and then the next birth "another 24 hours at 5 cm but then I went from 5 cm to 10 in 20 minutes!"  or similar stories.  If you did anything DIFFERENT (changed care provider, didn't have dilated checked, hired a doula, read X book, became an ICAN lifetime subscriber <grin>, etc) please tell us that too.

2)  TWO pictures from each birth.  It would be great to have one "labor" and one "birth" pic from each.

3)  Your name, contact phone number or email.  We will send you a release form to sign once we receive your submission and we may have some follow-up questions about your story.

Be part of ICAN's next education project... a video all about women who overcame a diagnosis of "Failure to Progress".

Remember to use the email address youtube@...  (if yahoogroups strips this, it's youtube @ ican-online.org )

Hi all,

A while ago, I announced that I would be resigning as chapter leader of ICAN of Buffalo, in pursuit of other ventures.  When I officially step down in February, one of two things will happen to ICAN of Buffalo – either I will be turning it over to someone, or it will be no more.

I, of course, would rather see it be taken over; but perhaps the need just isn’t there.  That said, what I would ask of each of you is to consider what brought you to ICAN.  Did having ICAN accessible to you make a difference for you? Do you think there are other women out there in the Buffalo area who could use the support that ICAN provides?

There is more to come, but please chew on that for now.

Thanks,
Rachel

And now for a little comedy, courtesy of my ICAN friend Angela in Houston:

An anesthesiologist, an OB, and a midwife walked into a bar. The
anesthesiologist ordered a pitcher of stout and a double burger; the OB
ordered a Reuben and a bottle of red wine; the midwife ordered their
biggest plate of steak and fries with a margarita. They all sat in a
booth and shared war stories.

A long time passed, and the three realized something had gone wrong
with their order. They decided to find out what the problem was. They
found the busboy just behind the swinging double doors to the kitchen.
He was struggling to get their overloaded cart from the tiled kitchen
to the carpeted dining area. The wheels kept catching on the bump.

The anesthesiologist kneeled down and examined the tires. You
just need to inject something here in the back; he announced. Then everything will go better.

The OB leaned down to look at the carpet. This part of the
carpet is blocking the cart, he announced. Give me
a knife and I'll just give it a little cut to help it
along.

The midwife leaned over to the busboy and whispered loudly in his ear, "You can do this! Just PUSH!"
