Well, hmm... that's new to me. I've known many women who have gone there and none of them have mentioned cytotec. I would want to know, well - for example, I have heard that one of the mws is more, er, shall we say "medically minded" than the other. So I guess the first question on my mind is who used it, and do they both use it? I've never spoken to Ceil about it but from what I've heard of her, she would likely be forthcoming about if and under what circumstances she would choose to use it, if she were asked.
Not administering cytotec for VBAC moms is crucial - and most of the medical community around here acknowledges that, so there is reassurance there, but I agree that the use of cytotec in an unscarred mom can be just as dangerous. I don't know enough about dosing, so I can't say what a 1/4 pill actually means, but suffice to say in that case a 1/4 pill is still 1/4 of a pill more than the FDA says is safe for pregnant women. I do agree, Aly - I would have a hard time subscribing to a provider who used it because it seems like such a violation and contradiction to keeping women safe during their births.
Sadly, this is not the first time I'm hearing of midwives using cytotec. I know that there are some who are using it in certain communities where homebirth is prevalant, and that is really scary (for the record, I am not speaking about Eileen or Jen). It is cheap (less than .02 per pill) and can be very effective - if you are willing to overlook the risks. But of course, there are still many people out there who are not familiar with the risks in the first place, or are willing to downplay them. That's just not acceptable to me.
I am still offline right now, but with tax return in hand and hoping to buy a new computer this week, so cross your fingers that I'm back online soon!
Oh, and I may be going to the ICAN conference this weekend as well (It's in Atlanta, so cross your fingers for that too that I can get a cheap enough last-minute flight!)

PS: My sister-in-law had her first baby last week with the same OB that cut me. She had gestational diabetes and was induced at 39 weeks. Shock of the century: she had a c-section. Baby was 9lbs, 7oz and "got stuck" with shoulder dystocia. Of course, she was on her back, not moving around at all, and he broke her water after a few hours, but yeah, sure, her baby was enormous and I'm sure her body's defective too. (*Note sarcastic tone). Ugh.

I know others here have used the midwives in Batavia and loved them, so I wanted to find out what you think about this.
I just found out on another board I belong to that they used Cytotec for a women having her third baby just last week (not a VBAC) and this disturbs me a great deal. I had considered the midwives at Batavia as a good option for me, but now I don't think I could go there knowing that they use Cytotec (even if they wouldn't use it for me). They gave her 1/4 pill inserted vaginally, twice. This is really bothersome to me. I didn't think there was anyone in the area who still used Cytotec, and I'm floored that it's midwives!!!
