EDUCATION, AWARENESS AND CHANGE
The tragic story of Andrea Yates, the Houston mother with postpartum depression who took the lives of her children, still resonates in Houston and in communities across the nation. Using this catastrophic event as a catalyst for education, awareness and change, the Women's Mental Health Initiative at Mental Health America of Greater Houston and Postpartum Support International brings the 22nd Annual PSI International Maternal Mental Health Conference to Houston, Texas.
PRESENTATIONS AND TRAININGS
The conference, scheduled for June 4-7 in Houston, Texas will examine issues in maternal mental health and various systems involved from a biomedical, psychological, familial, cultural, legal, governmental, and academic standpoint. Presentations and trainings from a variety of experts from the U.S. and Canada will arm attendees with current best practices, treatment strategies and awareness tools to help them address the pre- and post-natal wellness needs of mothers in order to prevent tragedy and loss for mothers and families in every community.
LEADING EXPERTS
Some of the top U.S. experts participating in the conference include Dr. Thomas Hale, international lecturer and author of the top selling drug reference manual Medications and Mothers' Milk; Dr. Ann Dunnewold, psychologist and national media expert on motherhood and mental health; Dr. Lucy Puryear, psychiatrist and author; Dr. Margaret Howard, Director of the Women & Infants Day Hospital for Post Partum Depression in Providence, Rhode Island; and George Parnham, criminal defense attorney for Andrea Yates.

BANQUET AND KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Valerie Plame Wilson, bestselling author and former CIA operative will also participate by sharing her story of postpartum depression and recovery at an evening banquet on June 6.  Individual tickets are available to this event.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Mental health and medical professionals, including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners,                         doulas, pediatricians, psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, psychologists as well as health and mental health                        para-professionals, advocates and family members are encouraged to attend.
The Menninger Clinic is partnering with the conference to provide professional continuing education credits to attendees.
