The museum of disABILITY History and People Inc. present the 3rd annual disABILITIES Film Festival & Speaker Series.

This Friday and Saturday, the Museum of disABILITY History is hosting the 3rd Annual disABILITIES Film Festival and Speaker Series at the Dipson Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, located at 639 Main Street in Buffalo. Admission is $2 per person or free for students with proper I.D.

The purpose of the Film Festival is to provide entertainment and information while exploring issues faced by people with disabilities. The programs are intended to educate viewers about disabilities and to challenge stereotypes. There will be a presentation and discussion by speakers following the showing of each film.


Film Festival Features:

Friday, October 12th:

SNOW CAKE (7:00 p.m.)

Snow Cake is the story of a developing friendship between a woman who has autism and an ex-convict who is traumatized after a fatal car accident. (Starring Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman.)

Speaker: Stephen R. Anderson, Ph.D., an expert on autism and Executive Director of Summit Educational Resources, Inc.

Saturday, October 13th:

THE TIC CODE (12:30 p.m.)

The Tic Code is an award-winning film about three people who come to accept that life doesn?t always deal you a fair hand and you must play the hand you?re dealt.

Speaker: Susan Conners, President of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater New York and ?Air? Gordon Scherer, Board Member of the Tourette Syndrome Association of Greater NY and WBEN/Star 102.5 radio personality.

UNFORGOTTEN: 25 YEARS AFTER WILLOWBROOK (3:30 p.m.)

This critically acclaimed award-winning film examines the impact that the closure of Willowbrook State School had on patients and their families in the wake of Geraldo Rivera?s shocking 1972 expos?.

Speaker: Bernard Carabello, the ?Father of the Self-Advocacy Movement.?
