Dear participants,
my name is Ulrike Cokl, I am a social- and cultural anthropologist, currently composing my PhD proposal. My paper at the conference will be on technology and social impact by giving an empirical overview on different healing strategies in a Bhutanese village and how these strategies are re-combined, abandoned or kept up with after the village got accessed by a road. When it comes to perceptions of health, disease and prevention there
exist a lot of different strategies in Bhutan which are not part of the
officially recognised traditional Bhutanese medicine and there has been done limited research on them.
I have conducted participant observation field research for about 6 months in a village in Bumthang and within the last 10 years I visited Bhutan 5 times over extended periods of time. The presentation at the conference will be held together with Drungtsho Dorji Udon from the indigenous hospital in Thimphu.
I am actually interested in critical and applied anthropological research combined with participant observation field method (among others).
I am looking forward to meet you at the conference in Thimphu!
Regards
Ulrike
