MARCH 14 MEETING

Please come out and join us at our next meeting -- Friday, March 14
at 7 PM at the South Snohomish County PUD Auditorium.

Jack Elias will share a presentation called "Hypnosis, NLP, &
Meditation: How are they related?"
This was one of the questions that came up at the recent Hypnotherapy
Resource Forum. Jack will help us put these various disciplines into
perspective so we can answer this question in a way that puts our
clients at ease.

Jack Elias is the author of Finding True Magic: Transpersonal
Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy/NLP

All are welcome - feel free to bring friends and guests. We hope you
can join us for a fun evening of learning!

MEMBER BENEFITS & HOW TO LIST YOUR EVENTS

I have recently received several phone calls looking for
practitioners located on the North End. I will refer interested
parties to our website at www.nghwa.org. If you are a CURRENT MEMBER,
you can have a listing on our website with a phone number and, if
appropriate, a link to your website. If you are interested in this,
please contact me at Lauren@....

Another one of our member benefits is the ability to have our events
listed on the website and in our E-News. If you would like to take
advantage of this benefit, we ask that you have your membership
currently up-to-date and paid for to be included. Also, please keep
your listing to just one or two brief sentences with a link to your
website for details. Please send listings for the E-News to
Lauren@.... The NGHWA E-News is sent out near the
first of each month, so please send your listing by the last week of
the previous month. Please send listings for the website to
JackieFoskett@.... Jackie will post them as her time allows,
with no guarantees of timeliness. So please send your listings well
in advance.

CALLING FOR A WEB MASTER

With recent advances in technology, our members can receive many more
benefits by posting their events and their information on our
organizations website. However, that requires a bit more work on the
part of our board members, who are already working hard to bring you
events and keep this organization running. So, the board has approved
a new position as Web Master. Board Members receive their annual
membership in the organization with no dues, as well as the
recognition of being a board member. Are you technically saavy? Would
you like to have the benefit of a board position just for maintaining
our website? If so, please contact us to discuss the details of our
new board position of Web Master. Call Lauren at 425-881-7082 or
email Lauren@... if you're interested.

Special thanks to Keith Livingston who has been hosting our website
for many years, and who has generously offered his time and talents
to creating our yahoo group and our website. Thanks to Jackie Foskett
who has been updating our website in 2008.

DECEMBER MEETING: THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7

Please note that our regular monthly meeting is THIS FRIDAY, December
7, at our usual time and place, 7 PM at the South Snohomish County
PUD.

We are pleased to welcome Chrysta and Sanford Anderson as our
featured presenters. The Andersons spoke at the NGH National
Convention in August.

Their presentation is called "Building Inspired Relationships through
Hypnosis." This presentation focuses on the value of relationships of
all kinds -- family, friends, partners, business associates - for
increasing the possibilities for inspiration, satisfaction and joy
through living a purposeful life.

Chrysta and Sanford are Certified Instructors for the NGH and work as
Hypnotherapists and Life and Relationship Coaches with Art of Life
Coaching in Lacey, WA. They teach state of the art methods for the
quantum evolution of personal experience, specializing in work with
people relationships of all kinds. They are pioneering the
application of hypnosis to support the development and evolution of
strong, creative and joyful relationships.

We are honored that the Anderson's are willing to drive all the way
up from Lacey to share their wisdom and innovation with us! If you'd
like to know more about their work, please visit their website at
ArtofLifeCoaching.com, or call their office at 360-709-9088.

Please join us for our last meeting of 2007!

BRING (OR EMAIL) YOUR FAVORITE SUGGESTIONS

In the holiday spirit of giving, we thought it would be valuable to
exchange some of our favorite suggestions.

Please write down a few of your favorites (perhaps an old stand-by,
one you find particularly valuable, or one that you wouldn't do a
session without). Bring them to the meeting, or email them to me at
Lauren@..., and we'll compile them into one file for
all of us to share.

Here's an example of one I often use - paraphrased because I never
use a script -
"Your mind is like a search engine, continueously scanning your
environment and bringing to your attention fresh, new ideas for how
you can nurture yourself in healthy ways."

Can you imagine how valuable a collection of all of our favorite
suggestions will be? Thank you for sharing yours this holiday season!
Bring your suggestions to the meeting, or email
Lauren@....

GRATITUDE FOR OUR 2007 NGHWA BOARD MEMBERS

This is the last month of service for some of our board members, and
we want to honor their contribution of time, energy, wisdom, and
dedication for 2007.

Cheryl Chamberlain has been our Secretary for several years, taking
meeting notes, and making sure we have water bottles and delicious
treats before the meeting! Thank you Cheryl!

Kent Ogletree has been our Event Coordinator, helping to plan our
events, and getting the information sent to the NGH headquarters so
that you get those nifty little postcards in the mail. Kent has also
been coordinating our book of success stories (still a work-in-
progress). Thank you Kent!

Cheryl and Kent will still be involved in chapter activities, but not
on the board next year.

Jackie Foskett was our 2006 President and our 2007 Vice President.
Her vision and attention to detail has been a tremendous contribution
to the board. We are extremely grateful that Jackie has stepped up to
take on the role of Event Coordinator for 2007. Thank you Jackie for
all of our dedication and service to our Chapter!

Ayhan Yavuz has been our Treasurer for 2007. We're grateful for his
time and energy to help keep our finances in order. He will be
transitioning to Vice President for 2008. Thank you Ayhan!

REMINDER: YOU CAN HOST A GREAT AMERICAN SMOKE-OUT EVENT

The Great American Smokeout is an annual event in the United States
to encourage Americans (of whom 45.8 million smoke) to quit tobacco
smoking. It was first held in 1977, and is sponsored by the American
Cancer Society. Its spokesman is Smokey Robinson. The event
challenges people not to smoke cigarettes for 24 hours, hoping it
will last forever.

It is held on the third Thursday in November, one week before
Thanksgiving. In 2007 the 31st Great American Smokeout will be held
on November 15.

This is a great opportunity to promote your services as a smoking
cessation expert!

RISING WATER FLOATS ALL SHIPS

Think of our Chapter as an amazing vehicle -- it can take us so many
places. It offers opportunities for us to continue our education. It
provides a place for us to meet other practitioners so we can
collaborate on projects and share ideas. It provides a forum each of
us can use to increase awareness of the profession of hypnosis
throughout the greater community. There are more than enough clients
out there for all of us, and we are seeing fantastic results as we
gather together in a spirit of cooperation, not competition. As we
continue to create a strong community of professionals, working
together to provide greater service, we "raise the water," if you
will, floating all of our individual ships higher.

Please consider participating in one of our collaborative projects,
like the Veteran's Day program, or World Hypnotism Day. If you have
any ideas about how to make our chapter better, please contact me, or
any of the board members, with your ideas.

Hi All,

I would like to clarify some language in the description of the
Veterans Day Events.

As Katie Evans brought to my attention, in the description of the
event I neglected to mention that the audience will have the
opportunity to be HYPNOTIZED.

I will work with the committee to rewrite the description as soon as
possible to clarify this point.

Also, I described the flow of the event as follows:
"These informational classes will include a simple overview of myths
and facts about hypnosis, some self-hypnosis tips for relaxation and
self-renewal, and an optional guided group induction."

To clarify, when I teach, I always lead a guided group induction and
make sure the audience knows that it is optional for them to
participate. This can help calm fears that I am going to "put them
under" against their will, so they can relax and enjoy the experience.

Again, we will clarify the program description soon.

I'll leave you with this thought from Katie Evans:
"My dad, who was a hypnotist for years, always told me, "People come
to you to be hypnotized. Get them into trance as soon as possible
and keep them there as long as possible. It's why they show up""

Thanks for everyone's attention and participation.

Warmly,

Lauren Archer

In case you haven't already heard, our Chapter is about to launch a
huge public relations campaign that will raise awareness for the
entire hypnosis community.

There's STILL TIME to get involved.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

In honor of Veterans Day, many of our members have agreed to present
free 2-hour classes in their communities for Veterans, Active Duty Military and
their Families. These informational classes will include a simple overview of
myths and facts about hypnosis, some self-hypnosis tips for relaxation and
self-renewal, and an optional guided group induction.

We're each handling our own logistics: finding facilities in our own
region, scheduling our own classes, providing our own materials, etc.
The Chapter is creating a hand-out that you can download and print.

Even though these are individual events, we are promoting them as a
UNIFIED WHOLE - an example of what we can do TOGETHER as a group,
even as we work INDEPENDENTLY to promote our own businesses.

____________________________________

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

Over the next 2 weeks, we will be sending press releases to various
media outlets, pointing them to the NGHWA site, where they will find
a schedule of events (see below for the text of what will be posted
so far).

In order to get involved, all you need to do is schedule your event
(please use the same title and text as below). Then send the date,
time, location, any requirements for pre-registration, and your
contact information to Lauren@.... We'll get it
posted on the NGHWA site.

In lieu of an event or class, you may also offer free phone
consultations or free downloads of articles or audio programs.
Check out the World Hypnotism Day website for ideas -
www.worldhypnotismday.com.

What follows is the text and a partial listing of events. We will
soon be adding a program at the Seattle Veterans Center that Kate
Wells is organizing, and Kent Ogletree will be adding a few events
Veterans Centers in the Tacoma area.

This is an unprecedented effort, made possible by the vision and hard
work of a lot of people behind the scenes, and I'm grateful for
everyone's efforts in making this possible. I hope to hear from many
of you soon with your event information.

* Friday meeting info - Roy Hunter on Parts Therapy
* Plan NOW for Veteran's Day Public Service Events
* World Hypnotism Day Updates
* Nominations for Officers begins in October

Greetings NGHWA Members and Friends,

Our next meeting is this Friday, September 14, starting PROMPTLY at 7
PM. Our featured guest is the legendary Roy Hunter, who will speak on
Parts Therapy. We are grateful for Roy's ability to share his wisdom
with us before he dashes out of town that same evening. Please be on
time, as we will start right on time with Roy's presentation and save
our announcements for later in the evening.

The meeting will be at the South Snohomish County PUD Office
21018 Highway 99, Edmonds WA 98026. Visit www.nghwa.org for more
information.

Our announcements this week will include our upcoming participation
in a Chapter-wide public service program for Military personnel,
Veterans, and their families.

This is a fantastic opportunity for all NGHWA members to participate
in a valuable public service, at the same time bringing lots of media
attention to our chapter and to your practice.

Here's what to do if you want to participate:

1. Secure a date, time and location to offer a free 2-hour
presentation on the benefits of self-hypnosis and relaxation to
Military personnel, Veterans, and their families in the month of
November.

2. When you have your date, time, and location for your event, send
the information to Lauren@... for inclusion in the
NGHWA website. We will post all events by NGHWA members on the NGHWA
website. During late September and throughout the month of October,
we will be launching a public relations campaign to promote awareness
of these events in various local media, including newspapers,
magazines, radio and TV.

3. We will provide you with a class description, outline,
downloadable flyers and even a Powerpoint presentation that you can
use if you wish. Please remember that you will be representing our
Chapter, so be sure to follow NGH Code of Ethics, make no claims
beyond your scope of practice, and keep your content focused on
wellness. This should not be a forum for political or religious
points of view.

I will send more information next week. For now, please begin finding
those locations and getting your event(s) scheduled on your calendar.

WORLD HYPNOTISM DAY (WHD) UPDATES

This is the time to plan your event for early January as well. The
official date for World Hypnotism Day 2008 is January 4, however, you
can host WHD events or offer WHD specials throughout the month of
January.

The World Hypnotism Day website has a password protected Member
Resources area that offers fantastic resources for NGHWA members to
use for planning and supporting your event. You'll find downloadable
medical and scientific abstracts on hypnosis, free downloadable hand-
outs and flyers, Powerpoint presentations, and even articles that you
can post on your website (with credit to WHD of course). If you're
not already on the mailing list and haven't gotten the username and
password, contact me or Tom Nicoli and we'll get you started.

Our chapter is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Hypnotherapy Resource Forum
on January 12, 2008 at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. We have
already accepted submissions and the agenda is being finalized this
week. We will be seeking NGHWA Members to volunteer at the event.
Contact Lauren at Lauren@PositiveCentral for details.

We are also in the final stages of producing a Book of Success
Stories. Contact Kent Ogletree at Kent@... for details.

open for nomination and voting. If you want to get more out of your
membership and participate in making our chapter one of the best in
the country, please consider getting involved. Our board meets for
dinner before each chapter meeting to review plans and goals. It's a
great group of people who are passionate about spreading the benefits
of hypnosis to the community, and offering value to our members. If
you'd like more information, feel free to contact any of the board
members to ask questions.

As a reminder, this year's board members are:

SCAM ALERT

Special thanks to Kent Ogletree for bringing this to our attention.

Please note that there have been attempts at a SCAM to several of our
members. The SCAM works by getting a quote and sending a check that
is more than the amount of the quote, "by mistake". Then he requests
you wire back the amount he over paid so he can afford to travel.
Since the check is drawn on an overseas bank it is at least 2 to 3
weeks before the forged check gets back to you. If you wired the
money back to him, you are just out that money and the fees.

There have been people that lost a lot of money in the past over this
scam. We have a few new practitioners as members now, so please
beware.

THIS IS ONE OF THE ACTUAL EMAILS RECEIVED.
Good day,
I am John Lauren from Cotonou . I saw your contact on www.aphp.net.
I will be coming over to the US, Kent WA precisely, from 23rd of
September to 25th of November with my wife. We both speak English
anyway.

We have been told that Hypnosis might help us quit smoking as we have
both been smoking for over 20 years, Myself and my wife my wife in
particular as she can't seem to get over the depression since we lost
our daughter, though may not be guaranteed to make us quit, but at
this stage, anything will do as we are ready to quit.

I will want to know if you can offer your services at these dates,
I'll also want
to know if you offer home calls ,but it's alright if you do not, as
we can meet
you at your place as we will need about 6-8 sessions each.

I will appreciate if I can get a price quotation. As we want to make
advance payments before our visit so we can be rest assured as I'll
be doing a lot of moving around and she'll be doing a lot of shopping
and sightseeing as this is her first visit to the US. An early
response will be appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon.
John

SUMMER SUCCESS SERIES #3 - PRESENTATIONS

This Friday, we will have the third and final meeting of our "Summer
Success Series," focusing on the topic of PRESENTATIONS.

We'll find out what our members have learned (from successes and
failures) about various aspects of putting on a successful presentation
- from creating a proposal, planning the logistics, developing the
content, creating audio/visual support, marketing the program,
delivering the program, keeping the audience engaged, creating
back-of-room sales, following up with the audience and the host. We hope
you can join us!

We're looking forward to having Roy Hunter as our presenter in
September!

JULY ROUND-TABLE MEETING NOTES

Thanks to everyone who participated, we had lots of great ideas. I took
just a few notes, including:

     * A new event that we would like to support for this fall is creating
complimentary relaxation classes for Veterans. If you would like to join
us and host a class in your area, please contact Kate Wells, who is
generously helping to coordinate this effort. As representatives of
NGHWA, please note that it's important that we remember our code of
ethics and be sure not to offer to diagnose or treat any medical or
psychological conditions. As we offer these classes as a service to our
community, we are generating public awareness, education, and good will
about the benefits of hypnosis, which then benefits all of our members.
     * Keith Livingston created a list of resources that he uses for
Internet marketing. He is making this list available to all of us. You
can obtain Keith's list by sending an email to ngh@...
<mailto:ngh@...> . Thank you Keith!
     * Gail noticed that because she keeps her NGH card in her wallet, it
is often a conversation starter at cash registers and checkout stands.
Good idea Gail!
     * Regarding web pages, many people suggest having a domain name and a
web page named after yourself, even if you also have a business name.
     * When sending out an e-news, there are certain words to avoid - so
you are not perceived as junk mail. I'm not putting them in this e-news
for that very reason!
     * Keith showed us some tips about how and where to maximize the way
our web pages can be noticed by internet searches and found by
customers, including the use of key words, search terms, and
localization.
     * I shared my resource for sending out e-newsletters, putting
registration forms up on my website, surveys, and auto-responders.

It was a lively discussion -- we can learn so much from one another!

Great Ideas from the June Meeting

We had great participation in our June round-table discussion. Here are
some of the highlights from discussions that I recall:

Cancellation policies: Our members have several different strategies.
Some have a written cancellation policy, most give people the benefit of
the doubt the FIRST time they miss an appointment, but not the second.
Simple ways to help minimize cancellations are to call and confirm the
day before, and when booking the appointment in the first place, say "So
you're going to show up for that?" When rescheduling, book far enough
out so they have an impression of the value of your time.

How much time do we allow per client: Many members allow a 2 hour block
per client, which allows them some time to return calls, etc. in-between
clients, but also allows for the session to run longer if necessary.
Some members give a suggestion on the first session that the client will
go into trance much more quickly and deeply on subsequent sessions,
saving time. Many expessed how their clients are ready and eager to go
into trance right away.

Marketing/Advertising: Idea came up of a CD give-away as a business card
- with a 5 minute induction and an ad. Discussion of pros and cons of
spending money on advertising, brochures, etc. Reminder that NGH has
brochures that you can order.

Office space vs. Home office - we discussed the pros and cons - it's a
very individual choice. Craiglist was recommended as a source for
renting office space.

Follow-up: At the close of your session, you may consider saying "in a
month, I'm going to call you for a testimonial." And "because you are
now a client, you are eligible to participate in additional programs..."

Legislative Update

We are pleased to announce that Katie Evans has been elected to
represent NGHWA on the Registered Counselor Work Group, which will be
developing recommendations for the Department of Health regarding the
need to regulate registered counselors and hypnotherapists. Thank you,
Katie, for being willing to participate in this important committee.

In addition, Jackie Foskett, our Vice President, received this
information from Scot Giles, Legislative and Governmental Concerns
Liaison, National Guild of Hypnotists, on June 25:

In February when all the action happened in your state I posted an
update in the Legislation Section of the NGH On-Line Member's Forum.

The update is at http://www.ngh.net/MemberForums/ShowPost.aspx
<http://www.ngh.net/MemberForums/ShowPost.aspx> ?

PostID=7221

The situation is unchanged since that time and the posting explains the
NGH position.

To access the Forum you need to register and have your membership and
password approved by the moderator. The Forum is the place where NGH
members can easily get updated legislative information. If you are not
using the Forum, this would be a good time to do so.

As a reminder, we encourage ALL hypnotherapists in Washington State to
consider joining the National Federation of Hypnotists. Here is the link

2008 World Hypnotism Day

It's time to begin planning how YOU are going to participate in World
Hypnotism Day - officially Thursday, January 4, but events can be held
all throughout the first part of January.

The benefit to creating and publicizing a promotion for this event is to
take advantage of the media attention that World Hypnotism Day will be
generating. Some ideas to get involved are to give a local talk and/or a
hypnosis demonstration, host an open house and give away free articles,
or have a free download on your website. Consider how you can
collaborate with other hypnotherapists in your area to leverage your
time and energy.

The NGHWA will be sponsoring a Hypnotherapy Resource Forum at Evergreen
Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland. The tentative date is January 12.

Why do we need to start planning NOW? There are many, many steps to
creating a successful event. Take a look at the schedule below, and
consider adapting it to your own event.

Hypnotherapy Resource Forum Production Schedule:

     * August: Speakers submit their proposed classes. Vendors submit
their proposed application for display tables. See below for submission
details.
     * September: Speaker packet is sent to Evergreen Hospital for
approval. Poster design begins. Sponsors are secured. Public Service
Announcements (PSA) and press releases are written.
     * October: Posters are approved and ready for production, PSA's are
produced, press releases are sent out to newspapers and other media
     * November: Posters are printed, PSA's are sent to radio stations,
press releases are sent again.
     * December: Posters are up, radio PSA's are running, newspaper
articles and calendar listings are in print, hand-outs are produced
     * January 1 - 12 - Promotion, promotion, promotion (may include radio
and TV interviews)

If you'd like to submit an application to present, sponsor, or host a
display table at the Hypnotherapy Resource Forum, you can fill out an
online survey at
http://www.positivecentral.com/Video/HypnotherapyResourceForum.htm
<http://www.positivecentral.com/Video/HypnotherapyResourceForum.htm> .

Here's another way to participate:

The NGHWA is working to create a book of success stories in the use of
Hypnosis with each story submitted by chapter members. This book will be
printed as a trade paperback with the goal of being between 100 and 150
pages.

If you are a member and wish to submit a story, E-mail:
Kent@... <mailto:Kent@...>

________________________________________________________________________\
___

We hope you find value in these email updates, and most especially, in
your NGHWA membership.

Please note that we have moved our August Meeting to Friday, August 3
(the FIRST Friday of the month, instead of the second), so that those
members who want to attend the NGH National Convention will still be
able to join us.

This month we're going to share ideas about what works and what doesn't
regarding websites, internet marketing, email newsletters, and more. I
hope to see you Friday.

On behalf of the NGHWA Board, I thank you for your involvement.

Planning For Success
Summer is an ideal time to create your strategic plans for the fall and
winter months. Many clients feel ready to make changes in September as
well as at the start of a new year.

To that end, we are creating more and more opportunities for NGHWA
members to join forces and support one another for maximum success. The
Summer Success Series will help you to fine-tune your plans so that by
fall, you are ready to launch the strategy that is right for you and
your business.

Summer Success Series
This summer, we're changing our format from the usual
Speaker-Audience format to a MEMBER IDEA EXCHANGE! We have so many
talented people in our membership who are glad to share their resources
and support other members.

So why reinvent the wheel? Save yourself time and money, and avoid
making the same mistakes others have made. Please be willing to share
your mistakes so others can learn from them, too!

Here's how it's going to work: When we arrive at the PUD
Auditorium, we'll arrange the chairs in a circle. After some brief
announcements and our Member Introductions (your 30 second Elevator
Speech), we will introduce a topic and go around the room in a
"round table" fashion, giving each person an opportunity to
either ask questions, share where they may be stuck, describe what
lessons they have learned, or provide potential solutions and resources.

We'll do our best to give everyone a chance to share – although
if you prefer, you can "pass" and just absorb all of the
information.

Here's our topic list –

• Creating and Booking Presentations and Workshops
• Mailing Lists, E-News, Public Relations, and Advertising
• Networking, Referrals, Strategic Relationships, Client Loyalty
• Systems: E-commerce, Administration, Office Systems
• Projecting a Professional Image - In Person, In Print, Online

Each topic could be an entire meeting on its own, and we expect there
will be some crossover. Depending on the interest level, we may even
break into smaller groups.
If you have specific articles or resources you'd like to share,
please bring them.

NEW INFO ON STATE REGISTRATION STATUS

I received some calls and emails today from the Washington State
Professional Counselors Association regarding the issue that has been
before the house and senate regarding registered counselor status. My
understanding is that up until now, Hypnotists and Hypnotherapists were
not affected by this bill. I was contacted today with information that
Senator Keiser had reworded the striker on the bill and is indeed
INCLUDING Hypnotists/Hypnotherapists. Apparently the bill with the new
amendments will be voted on this Friday morning.

Since I am not a legal professional and am not sure of the implications
of the verbage on the bill, I have contacted the National Federation of
Hypnotists and requested that they look into the situation, and will
let you know when/if I have an update.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1. If you haven't already, now is the time to join the National
Federation of Hypnotists' Union. Here's the link for information:
http://www.ngh.net/hypnosis/legislation1.html. The more members they
have in Washington State, the better they can serve us.
2. Call the Senate Hotline and voice your opinion at 1-800-562-6000.
3. Learn more at http://www.waproca.org
4. If you'd like me to email you the bill, please email me at
Lauren@... and I will forward to you what was sent to
me.

Special 10% discount for NGH Chapter members!
Contact Jack for details at jack@....

Transpersonal Hypnotherapy/NLP© is a radical synthesis of Eastern and
Western views and techniques applied to the art and discipline of
transformative communication.

This is an advanced training suitable for those already certified and
practicing.

Kudos for Jack's Trainings:

"I highly recommend Jack's course to ALL my former students, and
anyone else who wants to become a better therapist. I took Jack's 150
hour course in 1993 and found that it transformed both my life and my
career. I started doing hypnosis as a teenager. When I started his
course (at 34 years old, and just out of Marine Corp Avionics) I was
an unhappy part-time Hypnotist who knew how to do a lot of
techniques.

"Techniques don't make someone a therapist. After his course, I was a
HypnoTHERAPIST, who within a year left an unhappy marriage, finished
my RN degree, became a fulltime Hypnotherapist and started teaching
at Everett Community College.

"If I am a good therapist today, it's a direct result of my having
taken Jack's course. Every week, for one reason or another, I refer
back to his text book, Finding True Magic. I'm still amazed at how
much is in there and how valuable it has been to me. Thank you Jack,
and yes, you may use this as a testimonial."
-- Michael Gershman RN, BCH, Former President, WA State NGH Chapter,
Certified NGH Hypnotherapy Instructor

"Of the five nationally recognized hypnotherapy trainings I have been
certified in, my time with Jack Elias has been the most valuable. His
gift to you is so much more than just hypnotherapy, NLP, or
psychoanalysis. You are exposed to just about everything in
hypnotherapy that is known to work with great heart, spirit, and
humor."
-- Putnam MacDaniel, CHT, former President, NGH, WA. Chapter

"When I took Jack's course I was not really expecting all that I
received. I assumed I would learn some techniques and could utilize
them in a way that would suit my needs at the time. It was through his
knowledge and Jack's method of teaching that I learned not only the
basics of hypnotherapy, but a whole new way of thinking.
Within a few years I became a successful and sought after therapist.
When I say sought after, I do literally no advertising.
Jack's strengths are his ability to explain complex concepts without
getting caught up in technical lingo. When you leave you will have a
complete set of tools and techniques that will guide you through even
the most complicated cases. I recommend him highly."
-- Scott Sulak, CHT

REGARDING WASHINGTON REGISTERED COUNSELOR STATUS
POSTED AT THE REQUEST OF NGHWA MEMBER KATHIE BRODIE

As forwarded by another counselor:

Hello Everyone,

I'm asking for your help one final time to prevent the passage of
State Senate E2SHB 1993 so that it can be redrafted. As presently
written the bill puts 7000 private practice counselors out of
business and leaves thousands of satisfied clients without the
services they want and need and does nothing to protect consumers and
strengthen ethical practice in any part of the counseling field.
E2SHB 1993 needs a lot more work!

There is now support in the Senate to NOT vote this bill out of
committee and to get it rewritten - this would be a tremendous
victory. We actually have some real traction now and may even have
the votes to stop it. This is the perfect time to call people in key
districts! If you can get even 2 or 3 people from the districts of
these senators on Health and Long Term Care committee to call them
today, that would be huge help. They can be your friends, family,
anybody! People who call do not need to be counselors - anybody in
these districts who would be willing to call in and just say no to
voting E2SHB 1993 out of committee would make a big difference!

Here's the information - people can take the simple route and just
call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and say vote against E2SHB 1993 or
they can call the senators' offices and leave a more complex
message. Make it easy for people to act:

Senator Kastama, (360) 786-7648, or call the Hotline: 1-800-562-6000.
He's in the 25th legislative district which is Puyallup, Midland,
Fife, South Hill, Summit, Edgewood, Milton. He is definitely leaning
in our direction. Call and say the bill needs work in the interim
session - please don't vote it out of committee.

Senator Fairley, (360) 786-7662, or call the Hotline: 1-800-562-
6000. She is the senator from the 32nd district which is Lake Forest
Park, parts of Edmonds, Shoreline, Woodway, Kenmore. She may now be
supportive of not voting the bill out of committee. Just call and
say E2SHB 1993 causes more problems than it solves and isn't ready to
become law. Please don't vote it out of committee so that it can be
worked on in the interim session.

Senator Franklin, 360-786-7656, or call the Hotline: 1-800-562-6000.
She is the Vice Chair of the committee, from the 29th district, which
is parts of Tacoma - Lakewood, University Place, Parkland. It's a
long shot, but leaving her a message that says key stakeholders were
excluded from the task force that created this bill and as a result
it really doesn't work - doesn't protect the public and doesn't
create core competency levels for counselors. Please give it more
time - don't vote it out of committee.

Senator Pflug, 360-786-7608, or call the Hotline: 1-800-562-6000.
She's in the 5th Legislative District which is Issaquah, Maple
Valley, Sammamish, Snoqualmie Pass, North Bend, Fall City. We're
pretty sure we have her support to not vote this out of committee.
It wouldn't hurt to reinforce that by just saying this bill not only
doesn't protect the public, it actually harms both counselors and
their clients.

If you want to contact other members of the committee, the link is:
<http://www.leg.wa.gov/Senate/Committees/HEA/members.htm>
If you contact Senator Carrell, please thank him for his support!
He's sponsoring our amendments and leading the effort to keep this
from getting out of committee.

If ever there were a day when you could make a really positive
difference, this is it. Please help generate calls!

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

Please help us spread the word about all of the amazing benefits of
coming to the NGHWA meetings. Last month, for example, people were
riveted by Chelsea Gabriel's compelling presentation and didn't want
to leave! We are finding ways to network with one another and
collaborate on projects. We get fresh new ideas on therapeutic
techniques as well as business and marketing. And we get to come
together as a community to receive inspiration and support. It's the
only organization in our area that provides such support for
Hypnotherapists.

As you think about your contacts, please consider who you know that
may enjoy coming to the meetings, and point them to our website and
NGHWA.ORG. Let them know that can join our Yahoo Group to receive the
NGHWA E-News (instructions to sign-up are at NGHWA.org).

Thank you for your attention.
On behalf of the 2007 NGHWA Board, we wish you a happy and successful
month of April.

We hope to see you on the 13th!

Next Meeting: This Friday, February 9th, at 7 PM at the South Snohomish
County PUD auditorium. Katie Evans: "Thinking BIG About Your Business."
Visit www.nghwa.org <http://www.nghwa.org/> for details.

Important Information For NGHWA Members and Friends,

Yesterday's Seattle Times featured a story about the upcoming
legislative changes facing registered counselors in the State of
Washington. We are as yet unsure how these changes will impact the
Hypnosis profession, but we encourage everyone to become educated about
the issues and consider how you would be affected if the State of
Washington decided to take away our right to practice.

To that end, I have provided some detailed information below for your
reference:

     1. Some background information on the National Federation of
Hypnotists, a Union for Hypnotists, which I encourage everyone to sign
up for;
     2. A letter from Miriam Dyak, President, Washington Professional
Counselors Association
with background information about the legal issues and how to contact
your legislators.

The National Federation of Hypnotists - The Political, Legislative and
governmental affiliate of The National Guild of Hypnotists, Inc.

The National Federation of Hypnotists OPEIU-AFL-CIO is an independent
organization that functions as the political affiliate of the National
Guild of Hypnotists. It is chartered as Local 104 of the Office and
Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) of the AFL-CIO and
CLC, the union that represents physicians, nurses, chiropractors,
podiatrists, acupuncturists, midwives and other health care workers.
OPEIU has represented hypnotists since 1980. Affiliation with the
AFL-CIO gives hypnotists access to the political and legislative
apparatus of the AFL-CIO at every level of State and Federal Government.

The Federation, or NFH 104 for short, has a national jurisdiction with
members throughout the United States, Canada and England. NFH 104 has
done more to protect the rights of hypnotists to practice that all of
the other hypnotist organizations combined. Any hypnotherapist may join
NFH 104 provided that you support the standards recommended for the
practice of hypnosis and have a minimum of 100 hours of training in
hypnosis.

NFH 104 maintains an exhaustive database of legislation, maintains a
national legislation watch regarding laws that might effect the right of
hypnotists to practice, and has a good record of success intervening in
specific states to protect the rights of individual practitioners who
are under media or political attack.

Membership benefits include:

     * Political advocacy in your state to protect your right to practice
hypnosis. * Political and Legal assistance if you are personally
attacked by the media. * The right to vote on issues affecting
professional hypnotism. * Access to union benefit plans (mortgages,
student loans, legal services). * Assistance in setting up your
practice to conform to the laws of your state. * The satisfaction
of knowing you are doing your part to protect your profession.

If you wish to join NFH 104 you can obtain an application by writing to:

NFH 104 Secretary/Treasurer
Sharon Morris

Phone: (603) 424-2136 FAX: (603) 424-2136 E-mail Address -

Current dues are $16.50 per month, plus a one time initiation fee. Dues
can be paid annually or bi-annually.

Letter from Miriam Dyak, President, Washington Professional Counselors
Association

I am writing to ask for your support for myself and for other registered
counselors in Washington State. Last week legislation was introduced
into both the House (HB 1494) and the Senate (SB 5579) to completely
eliminate registered counselors by July 2009 and force about 7,000
registered counselors in private practice to either go out of business
or go back to school to become mental health care professionals trained
to work with abnormal psychology and mental, emotional, and behavioral
disorders. As most registered counselors work with a wellness model of
personal growth and the development of human potential, switching over
to a medical model of illness and treatment for illness is unacceptable
on many levels. It conflicts with many of the basic theories behind the
modalities in which we are skilled and it forces us into an area of
practice that runs counter to our gifts, talents, and professional
goals. I know many of you very much value the service that I and other
human potential and personal growth counselors in private practice
contribute to the community. Your support at this time, writing to your
legislators and/or coming to Olympia to testify before Health
Committees, could be most important key to creating a real win for all
concerned.

Your personal expression of support and how you see my and other
non-licensed counselor's work as valuable is the most important thing
you can tell your legislators. They need to hear from real people about
why this matters to you and about what you would lose if we were no
longer able to practice and the kind of personal growth work we offer
were no longer available. And, if you are outside Washington state but
have credentials that might impress our legislators with your expertise
on this matter, please pull out all the stops and let them know your
opinion. We can so use every bit of support we can get. I'll outline
some of the major talking points below. Use what feels comfortable to
you - there's no need to try and mention everything in one letter.

I will also include the link to finding your legislators' contact
information. It would help me a great deal to get copies of any letters
you send, and please do let me know if you might be available to testify
in the next couple of weeks. We need to pack the Committee hearings
with as many supporters as we can and we have very little time to get
the word out. If you can pass this along to others in your community,
that would be enormously helpful as well. Thank you so much for your
support!

In gratitude,
Miriam

Miriam Dyak, President, Washington Professional Counselors Association
<miriam@... <mailto:miriam@...> >

How to contact your legislators:
Directions for contacting your legislators can be found at
<http://leg.wa.gov/legislature/ <http://leg.wa.gov/legislature/> > -
click on "Find your district," enter you address, and then click on the
individual legislators for their contact information. E-mailing
legislators is just fine, but please write something (even something
very short) so that there is a record of your opinion. If you are an
"out of state expert," write to the chairwomen of the Health Committees
- Senator Karen Keiser and Representative Eileen Cody. Also, so that we
can have a sense of how we are doing in this effort, please send e-mail
copies of the letters you write to <miriam@...
<mailto:miriam@...> >. Thank you so much!

Talking points:

     * Ask your representatives to oppose HB 1494 and your senator to
oppose SB 5579 * Tell them why you care about this issue. If you
have worked with a registered counselor, why was that important to you?
If you think it's important to be able to choose to work on personal
growth, develop creative responses to normal life stress, enhance
wellbeing, develop resilience, learn new life skills, and embark on a
journey of self-reflection, self-knowledge, and self-discovery, please
let your legislator know. You might want to emphasize that these are
all goals that are pursued by normal, healthy, high functioning people -
for example, you don't need to be sick or depressed or in need of
medication in order to want to learn new ways of communication, improve
your decision making abilities, or be interested in your dreams. *
If you are a counselor or health care professional (registered or
licensed), inform them of your credentials and the work you do, and let
them know your professional support of your colleagues. (Also, many
registered counselors don't even know about this legislation - if you
know people who may be affected, please let them know what is
happening.) * Point out that you are concerned about the reports of
abuse of clients by registered counselors, but the proposed legislation
is targeting the wrong people. This proposed legislation completely
ignores what has been the most serious problem with the registered
counselor status, that of untrained, unskilled people who register as
counselors and get jobs in agencies. Last April 24 The Seattle Times
published an exposι on abuse of clients by registered counselors.
All but one of the cases cited in the article were registered counselors
without training who worked in agencies. Unfortunately the proposed
legislation does nothing to remedy this situation. In fact, it allows
this abuse to continue. And there has been no demonstration or
documentation that the 7,000 private practice counselors who would be
put out of business by this proposed legislation are in any way abusing
clients or that they are likely to do so in the future. * Registered
counselors in private practice were not included in the process of
creating this proposed legislation. No RC's in private practice were
included on the Department of Health Task Force that met last summer.
The Task force was comprised of licensed mental health professionals,
agency employees, 2 legislators, and Department of Health
representatives. RC's were actively discouraged from attending the
meetings and those of us who did were allowed only 1 minute each to
speak during a 15 minute period at the end of each 3 hour session. We
care deeply about our profession and want to work with the Legislature,
the Department of Health, and the Governor in creating real solutions to
real problems. We feel we could be the best allies in creating a
positive outcome to these problems, but so far we have been excluded
from the process. * Suggest that the best solution is to table the
bill for this session in order to allow time for the Washington
Professional Counselors Association (WAPROCA), a new organization of
human potential and personal growth counselors in private practice, to
work with the legislature and the Department of Health in crafting
legislation that will actually create solutions both to protect
Washington citizens and allow us to choose the kind of counseling we
want and need. WAPROCA is working to create a new category of non
licensed counselors, "human potential and personal growth counselors,"
that will meet a much higher standard of ethics training and continuing
education.

HYPNOTHERAPY RESOURCE FORUM FEEDBACK
I'm pleased to share a letter from one of the attendees of the
Hypnotherapy Resource Forum. This letter was written to directly to
Evergreen Hospital and they shared it with me:

"Congratulations on the excellent Hypnotherapy Resource Forum you
sponsored on January 6. The event was lively and informative and
altogether impressive. Each speaker did a terrific job, and
complemented each other beautifully in the panel discussion.

"I have managed events professionally, so I know such smooth results
don't happen by accident! Participants were made to feel welcome
and valued and everyone seemed appreciative of how well the schedule was
organized.

"I especially want to commend Evergeen on hosting such a worthwhile
event – one of many I see in your community schedule. I had no
preconceived notions about the benefits of hypnotherapy, but I'm now
convinced its techniques can be invaluable in the healing process. I
wish other health centers were so enlightened.

"Thank you again for doing such a terrific job. I look forward to
exploring more educational resources at Evergreen."

I hope this letter inspires you to find more ways to collaborate with
your peers - we can do so much when we work together!!!

We are planning an amazing year with lots of opportunities for all of
our members and guests to learn, share resources, collaborate, network,
and grow. Please help us spread the word about our meeting next Friday,
February 9. Remember that NGHWA meetings are open to the public and
offer valuable information for everyone, so feel free to invite friends
and guests.

Thank you for your participation!

Due to below-freezing temperatures, icy conditions, and many side-
roads remain unplowed, we have decided to cancel the January NGHWA

We know that this is one meeting that you particularly DO NOT want to
miss, but we are concerned about everyone's safety. Rest assured, we
will reschedule Keith's presentation for this spring.

In the meantime, you are invited to come see Keith as he presents an
Introduction and Overview to the winter/spring Hypnotherapy
Certification Course, on January 20th from 1:00 to 3:30 PM in

Certification Course this winter/spring, using Keith's "Learn
Hypnosis at Home" materials, Mary Lee LaBay's textbook "Hypnotherapy:
A Client-Centered Approach," and my "7 Steps of Self-Hypnosis" audio
CD.

You and your guests are invited to a Free Introduction on Saturday,

discounts and bonuses. The course will be held at the classroom space

A note from the President:

I'd like to remind everyone that we have a very exciting year in
store for your NGHWA meetings. Our regular meetings now open with a
30 second "elevator speech" from members, allowing you to get to know
your colleagues and practice your presentation skills. We also
include a mini-hypnotic induction to help us apply the concepts we
teach. We have a fabulous line-up of presenters who offer hands-on
skills you can apply immediately in your practice - everything from
clinical techniques to business and marketing ideas. Most
importantly, in my opinion, is the opportunity to get to know your
colleagues and brainstorm ways to collaborate (an example of this is
the Hypnotherapy Resource Forum).

So think of NGHWA as a vehicle to help you get where you want to go.
As Woody Allen said, "80% of success is showing up." If there's
something you'd like to change, then show up and volunteer to run a
committee. We welcome your ideas and participation, whether large or
small. If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, please come and
meet the new board and see what the NGHWA can do for you!

Wishing you a safe and prosperous January.

World Hypnotism Day Success: Hypnotherapy Resource Forum!

This past Saturday, 7 NGHWA members plus a member of Bastyr
University presented a variety of mini classes and an instructor
panel at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. Several NGHWA members came
to volunteer and had Resource tables at the event. Approximately 140
people attended, and we received publicity on local radio stations
and newspapers. We offered a valuable service to the community,
promoting the positive benefits of hypnosis, which in turn, benefits
all hypnotherapists.

I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the event. Thanks to
NGHWA presenters Jackie Foskett, Mary Lee LaBay, Katie Evans, Kate
Wells, Jack Elias, Keith Livingston; to vendor Ayhan Yavuz; and to
volunteers Cheryl Chamberlain, Dave Thorson, Haley Thorson, Lisa
Nelson and Kathie Brodie.

There is so much we can do when we work together with a spirit of
cooperation, not competition!

Just imagine how many other ways we can collaborate to create amazing
results!

Good-bye and Thank you!

I want to thank you all for the honor and privelege of serving as the
President of the National Guild of Hypnotists, Washington State Chapter
during
this past year. It has been a wonderful experience.

I have worked with an excellent Board.
As a team we helped increase membership,
get some truely great speakers for continuing education,
and formed a committee for World Hypnotism Day, among other things!

Laurie Finkelstein, the WHD committee chairperson, took that position
and ran with it
and thanks to her and Mary Lee LaBay, we will be hosting a first
Hypnotherapy Resource Forum
at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in January.

Thank you, Laurie for all your energy, effort and project management
skills on this project.
And...Thank you, Mary Lee for all your expertise and support in making
this happen as well.

I want to give a special thank you to Evie Chan.
Evie has served for 2 years as Treasurer and has been the "rock" for
all of us
She has certainly been my right-hand person whom I could consult with at
anytime.
Thank you, Evie for all you have contributed.
I hope to continue to see you at the meetings!

John Gore, our VP and Cheryl Chamberlain, our secretary are extremely
generous souls and I thank you both for the presence of your spirits!

Ellany Kayce, our past Events' Coordinator, came onto the job a couple
of months
into the year, yet she embraced it fully and did such an excellent job
in finding speakers for us.
Unfortunately for us, she needed to leave the Board position before
the end of the year and she was greatly missed.

Luckily for us, Laurie Finkelstein filled in a few of the gaps! Thanks,
again, Laurie.

Lastly, I'd like to thank past president, Keith Livingston for all his
support during the year.
I could not have done so many of the technical aspects without him.
And, he was a great overall resource and very generous with his time
(and humor!).
Thanks, Keith.

So....
I leave serving as President on a very positive note.
I have had excellent support during this year. I truely enjoyed the
ride!
And, I have had the honor to get to know many of you and I appreciate
that completely. Thank you.

Please come and see us at the December meeting and into the New Year!
I'm staying on as VP next year, so I still get to be on the Board.

Sincerely,
Jackie Foskett, CH
