From NGHWA President, Jackie Foskett

Hello NGHERs, Hypnotists, and all other interested readers,

Welcome to the Early August edition of NGHWA News!

I will keep this very short this month, so here goes!

Last month: Great meeting about business taxes----too bad such a
low turnout---I know it's summer!

This month: Friday, August 4th (1 week early due to National
Convention the following week)

	 Speaker: Kate Bowditch
Topic: Working with Those Who Do Not Visualize
	 Time: 7-9 PM

Please show our speaker support by attending. We love to see
you, know how you are doing and network with you.

Reminders:
Deadline for World Hypnotism Day proposals is: August 11th I
mailed the proposal form to all members who were not present at
the last meeting.

If you are not a member, and would like to participate, please go
to www.nghwa.org and find the application there. Members have
first priority, so again, great time to join. It's even less
expensive on our local level now! Of course, you must be a member
of NGH first. Call Evie Chan for more details: 360-691-4201.

Kent Olgetree has proposed doing a book of success stories
written for the general public. He will be using an online on
demand publishing type of medium. We can use this material for
fund raising for the chapter as well as for individual
practitioners to use and/or sell for their practices. He will be
presenting us with an application form in the near future for
this project to be completed by World Hypnotism Day. Gather those
client success stories now!

I will be attending the NGH Annual Convention in the Boston area
from the 11-13th. Still time left to register and some rooms
available in the Embassy Suites and Hotel Marborough near the
hotel where convention is taking place, if you'd been sitting on
the fence about attending, perhaps now is the time to jump in.
I'm looking forward to it and will report on it next month.

July NGHWA Newsletter from Jackie Foskett, President

Hello all NGHers and others interested in the world of hypnosis!

Hope you all are having a great summer so far doing all those
things that summer is meant for!! Hint, if you are wondering
what those things are, you are definitely in need of some R&R
along with some self hypnosis for relaxation!

Lots to share with you in this newsletter:

* Speakers-last month and coming this month
* Thank you from Deborah Kaye
* NGH Annual Convention
* Advertising Campaign
* World Hypnotism Day 2007
* Registered Counselor Survey from Department of Health
* We raised $100 for World Vision!

SPEAKERS:
We were entranced last month with 2 very special presenters, John
Gore, our VP, and co-owner of Science of the Mind Hypnosis, and
his guest presenter, a surprise for all of us, Brian Crouch of
Windrider Entertainment, who is a Mentalist. Both gentleman kept
us entertained and informed. Brian was amazing as he
demonstrated how powerful one's mind (his!!) is. There were many
oohs and ahs heard from those gathered. John impressed us with
how he uses stage hypnosis to educate the public about hypnosis
and about how powerful our minds are and how people can use their
powerful minds to do so much more than they ever thought
possible. It was refreshing to hear this perspective about stage
hypnosis.

This month you will get an opportunity to get answers to those
perplexing tax questions I'm sure all who have their own
businesses encounter each April!!

Please join us Friday, July 14th at 7 Pm:

Mike McAuliffe, CPA, will present:
Practical tax and accounting issues affecting Professional
hypnotists

Bring your business tax questions!!

Thank you from Deborah Kaye:
Last month, I wrote about Deborah Kaye, Certified Clinical
Hypnotherapist, who had a terrible accident and was recovering
from the ordeal. At the meeting last month, I again asked for
everyone's positive thoughts and prayers for her, and John Gore
in his generosity donated a food basket for her,and bought a "get
well" card, and then we decided to send around an envelope for
donations for whoever felt "called" to participate, as Deborah
was not seeing clients quite yet. People were very generous and
I had the pleasure of visiting with her and bringing her those
wonderful gifts on that Sunday following the meeting. The
following is from an email that Deborah sent me to thank everyone
for their kind and generous hearts:

"I am so touched and grateful for the special trip you made to my
home at the end of a busy weekend for you. The gift basket is
lovely and welcomed. The card and donations from members of our
local NGH group was to say the least such a surprise that it took
my breath away. Will you pass on this message. In our world of
disconnection and speed; busy lives and personal crisis, to have
fellow humans reach out without agenda to lift you up defines
universal love and compassion. I am honored and humbled to be the
recipient of this compassion and generosity. "I thank you all
from the bottom of my heart and will keep your card nearby to
remind me in the night when I'm feeling sorry for myself that I
am not alone in life or alone in suffering.
My deepest gratitude to you all."
Deborah Kaye

NGH Annual Convention:
August 11-13th
Still time to register!
Visit: www.ngh.net

Advertising Campaign:
Katie Evans, of Living Lite! got the ball rolling on our
advertising campaign. She researched various places where to get
the most out of advertising $ and came up with the recommendation
that we do group ads with the Seattle Times/P-I. There are 4
different areas of the Puget Sound that we could advertise in and
so we passed around sign ups for the various areas to see
what/where the interest is. As the committee gets more
information to the Board, we will send out a separate email
and/or snail mailing to inform all members of the special offers
and rates. This is for NGHWA members only. If you aren't
already a member, this is a good reason and time to join!! We'd
like to see these ads happening in the fall.

World Hypnotism Day, January 2007:
Laurie Finkelstein, who is the committee chair of this project,
has done a fantastic job of getting the profession of hypnotism
significant exposure for this event. We will be having a World
Hypnotism Day Symposium at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center on
Saturday, January 6th, 2007! There will be presenters on various
topics in order for the public, as well as interested healthcare
providers, to understand the many applications of hypnosis.
There will also be display tables to provide educational or
informational resources that are appropriate for the event. The
"call for Presenters" is posted on the web site @
www.nghwa.org/WHD.doc
Please look for it, as there is an August 11th deadline for
presenter and table display applications.
FYI: NGHWA members will get priority!!
Once again--a very good reason to be part of our professional
community.

I, and I know I speak for the Board, as well as many other
hypnotists and hypnotherapists, that this is an exciting time for
us--we are getting the word out: HYPNOSIS WORKS!!!! As a
professional organization, we are also interested in making sure
we present ourselves as professionals, and with the advertising
campaign and then World Hypnotism Day Symposium at a local
hospital, we are definitely going to have an impact on the
community as a whole. This is good news for people who need our
assistance and for us in the service business of hypnosis.

Registered Counselor Survey from Department of Health:
The Department of Health, State of Washington, recently sent out
a letter to Registered Counselors requesting that they do an
online survey. This letter was also sent to Registered
Hypnotherapists because they fall under the same laws and
regulations as an RC. I had email communications with the one of
the people on the Task Force, Sherry Thomas to get clarification
about who should fill out this survey form. The Governor has
only asked that the RC designation be reviewed to address whether
or not this category should be continued, whether more education
should be required and more. She indicated that the Registered
Hypnotherapist could fill out the survey, if they wanted to, but
at the present time, they were just reviewing the Registered
Counselor. So, if you've been wondering if you should fill it
out, hopefully that will help you make your decision. There is a
deadline of Wednesday, July 12th, if you are planning to do it.

We raised $100 for World Vision:
A big thank you from Keith Livingston. At our last meeting,
through sales if his "Get a Web Site on the Internet Fast--for
just Pennies a Day!", we raised $100 for World Vision.

Ok, folks, this was an especially long newsletter. My apologies
for keeping you reading so long, but there was much to
communicate!

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting on Friday, July 14th
at 7 PM

Please note, next month, we will meet one week earlier--on
Friday, August 4th, due to the Annual Convention scheduled for
the following week.
Kate Bowditch will present: Scripts for Non-Visual People.

Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Jackie Foskett, CHT

June NGHWA Newsletter

Hello fellow NGHers, and others reading this,

Welcome to June and another month of news from the local
state chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Even if you are tired of hearing this from me, really, I
must say it again---we had another great speaker last
month, Bal Simon, who was able to fill in for our
scheduled speaker who was unable to make it. Bal gave us
lots of tips about making our own website, where to host
it, and so much more. We were very fortunate to have his
expertise avaiable to us. John Gore, our VP, was
instrumental in securing Bal as a speaker for us at the
last minute. Thank you, John.

Speaking of John, you can not, I repeat, can not miss this
next meeting on this Friday, June 9th. John, who does Stage
Hypnosis as well as private practice hypnotherapy, will be
demonstrating a show for us, along with answering all our
questions about this fun art of Stage Hypnosis. Come see,
and maybe even be a part of the show, this very talented
man show us all the ins and outs of the profession of
Stage Hypnosis. You will not want to miss this! It's
almost officially summer, a time for leisure and fun, so
start off the season with this winner of a show.

At the last meeting, I re-introduced my and the Board's
vision of having committees to help further the profession
of hypnosis and therefore all practitioners' work as
hypnotists or hypnotherapists. One area we were looking
to explore is group advertising, and another is World
Hypnotism Day-January 4th, 2007. There was a positive
response to getting involved and a sign up sheet was
passed around and we ended up with 2 commmittee chairs:
Katie Evans for Advertising, and Laurie Finkelstein for
World Hypnotism Day, as well as many committee members.

Thank you both so very much for your committment to these
projects. I know with both of these two talented and
"can-do attitude" women, we at NGHWA, and hypnotists in
general, will become much more known for the many benefits
we can provide the public. I also want to thank everyone
who signed up to be part of the committees. Your
willingness to be involved speaks alot about the members
of NGHWA. Thank you for your support.

If you haven't already registered for the NGH's Annual
Convnention, now is the time! The main hotel where the
conference is being held is already, and has been for some
time, completely booked, but they will give you a list of
other nearby hotels that can accommodate you. This will
be my first Annual Convention, and I'm looking forward to
meeting other NGHers from all over the world, as well as
taking so many interesting courses that are available. I
love learning, so I'll be in heaven, I'm imagining! Drop
me a line and let me know if you are headed that way as
well.

Knowing the power of thought, I'd like to ask you to send
healing thoughts/prayers/however you describe them, to
Deborah Kaye. She spoke at our March meeting this year
and has spoken before for NGHWA, and is a wonderful
hypnotherapist, as well as a wonderful human being, who
unfortunately got hit by a truck as she was walking in a
crosswalk on May 5th. She's home now recovering from
broken bones, skin grafts and more, although, as she says:
miracles: brain, spine, and organs all ok. I know it
can't be easy for her, and I thank you for any conscious
healing thoughts you can send her way.

Hello fellow NGHer's and others reading this,

Welcome to another month of news from the local state
chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists.

As usual, I must rave about last month's speaker, Katie
Evans of Living Lite. She's a very dynamic speaker with
lots of information to share. Her many years experience as
a Hypnotist and business owner of a franchise, has given
her a wealth of marketing experience that she was so
generous in sharing with us. I know each of us took away
a renewed feeling of possibility and enthusiasm for
promoting our practices as well as practical tools to get
the job done.

This next meeting, on Friday, May 12th is bound to build
on that concept of promoting our businesses by having the
right and professional Internet presence. Bal Simon will
speak to us on what it takes to make our internet presence
as powerful as we are!

Please be sure to join us and learn all you can to have
the best Internet presence possible.

Please note: Our speaker and topic is different than
originally planned. Due to unforseen circumstances, our
Website designers were unable to present this month. We
are fortunate to have such a wonderful replacement.
Please see nghwa.org for more information.

Some annoucements:

Positive Changes, a franchise hypnotherapy business, is
looking for hypnotists, hypnotherapists to work for them.
They do have a non-competing clause condition, which you
will need to talk with the managers about, but it could be
such a great opportunity for anyone who does not currently
have a practice or is just getting out of school, and
would like to gain experience working with an already
established hypnosis business.

Please contact in Bellevue: Christine Morton General
Manager phone 425-274-8000 fax 425-274-8004

or Sheryl Manchester who is looking for 3
hypnotherapists for the Portland office. Regional Director
CHT Positive Changes hypnosis 509-462-4222

Deborah Kaye, who spoke at our March meeting, and who does
alot of work with EFT(tapping) is looking to hold a
workshop on EFT for interested parties. Please call her
if interested at 206-526-2959.

Wow, have you noticed how beautiful it looks outside these
days? I'm entranced! As I look all around at nature and
all of its beauty at this time of the year, I'm reminded
how the winter, as dreary as it may seem at times, is
really the time when nature is storing up its energy to
produce this magnificent blossoming that we are
experiencing right now. And just as nature had been
storing up the energy to get things really moving, I'm
reminded that one of the reasons I decided to serve on
this Board was to help bring more awareness to the
profession of hypnotherapy. I and I know all the Board
members that are serving with me agree, that our meetings
and speakers provide a forum for us and an exploration of
how to get more of our services to those who need our
help. I think it's the Springtime for Hypnotists--we're
blossoming now, we can show our beauty by bringing our
professional services to more people. How? you might ask.
Let's get going on Group Advertising. Who wants to help?
Who wants to blossom? Who wants to be known? We can
present ourselves as a group of professionals in various
communities, who are ready to welcome new clients and
support people in their desire for change for more beauty
in their lives. It's Spring, going on Summer, people are
ready for us. Let's be ready for them. Call me or any
other Board member, or better yet, show up at the meeting
on Friday and let's get a committee formed to spring into
action!

A glitch in the system prevented NGH from getting postcard
notices to members. Our apologies.

Reminder: Meeting: Friday, May 12th 7-9 PM at the
Mountlake Terrace Library. See website for directions.
Speaker: Bal Simon on "Improving Your Internet Presence!"

Happy Springtime,
See you at the meeting,

NGHWA April Newsletter

Hello NGHer's, Hypnotherapists, Hypnotists, and all else who
receive this newsletter. Welcome to another month of news from
the Washington State Chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists.
This newsletter is getting out a bit later than normal, so if you
hadn't already planned on being at the meeting on Friday, April
14th at 7 pm, from previous notifications, this is the time to
mark the event on your calendar.

I know I'm being redundant, as I've said this about all our
speakers so far, but I must say once again, that last month's
meeting with Deborah Kaye was outstanding. Her method of teaching
always includes using someone from those gathered, and this time
was no exception. Deborah demonstrated how powerful tapping
(acupressure for the emotions!) can be for releasing negative
emotions associated with the inner conflicts of relationships.

I have no doubt everyone present received some very useful tools
to work with in their practices and/or for their personal well
being.

So, now, let me entice you to this next meeting on Friday. We are
fortunate to have Katie Evans of "Living Lite", a very successful
Weight Loss Program franchisor, speaking to us about "Creating a
Successful Hypnotherapist Business".

If you are still in trance about how difficult it is to be
successful as a hypnotherapist, this is the event to be at. Join
me and the Board at NGHWA, in hearing how we can move forward in
our businesses and let go of beliefs that keep us stuck in the
same place!

Friday, April 14th at 7 PM - Mountlake Terrace Library, Mountlake
Terrace.

The NGH Annual Convention is coming up soon: August 11-13th. Best

exchange of knowledge with one another, as well as committed to
sharing the benefits of hypnosis and hypnotherapy to…the public
at large. Be in that vision. Join us on Friday, the 14th of April
at 7 PM.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Hello fellow NGHer's, Hypnotherapists, Hypnotists, and anyone
else reading this:

Welcome to another month of news from the Washington State local
chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists. If you weren't at
the February meeting, you missed another great one!!! Keith
Livingston, our immediate past president, presented lots of
useful information to us, as well as kept us laughing a lot,
typical Keith style! And….he gave away many of his very
inspiring products!

This month, on Friday, March 10th, we are fortunate to once again
have Deborah Kaye, of Path Finders, enlighten us about how we
"Dance With Conflict". Join us for an evening of discovery about
relationships and how we can help our clients in this "Dance".
She will also be offering a workshop in Seattle at the end of
March. Be sure to be at the meeting to get in on both
opportunities.

So, if you haven't already done so, mark your calendars now to be
at the NGHWA meeting on Friday, March 10th at 7 PM.

Future meetings include:
* Katie Evans of "Living Lite" will talk to us about how to have
a full time well paid successful practice on Friday, April 14th.
* Tony Peterson & Rich Carbaugh on webdesigns on Friday, May
12th.
* John Gore, our VP and his business partner, Angie will present
a Hypnosis Stage show and answer questions about this aspect of
the hypnosis business on Friday, June 9th.

Stay tuned for more speakers and dates.

We will continue with the "30 second intro", that Cheryl
Chamberlain, our secretary, introduced and facilitated at both
the January & February meetings. It gives us all the
opportunity to practice our "elevator" speeches and to continue
to become clear on what we do as hypnotherapists!

Again, I'll mention, that as we are trying to plan as far out in
the year as possible, and as we know how quickly time flies, I'd
like to plant the seeds for some future events that we could do
as a community to promote hypnosis to the public. We are looking
for people who would like to form committees for the following:

* The Great American Smoke Out -November 17th, 2006
* World Hypnotism Day ---January 4th, 2007
* Joint/Group Advertising ( i.e. in Conscious Choice or other
publication )

If you'd like to see any of these things happen, please let us
know how you can be of service. The Board is happy to create the
vision, run the meetings, gather speakers, and lots of other
administration aspects, but we're unable to take on these bigger
projects without you. Imagine what we can create together……………

Member offerings:
Mary Lee LaBay, a NGHWA member, is presenting the following
workshop for hypnotherapists:

Friday's Meeting

We do have another treat in store this month. Our very own
immediate Past President, Keith Livingston, will present to us:
Submodalities: The Secret Code of the Mind. As Keith is a world
leader in NLP and hypnosis education, you can bet you will take
away a lot of tools to start to immediately use in your

Keith will be giving away over $500 worth of very practical NLP

At our last meeting, Cheryl Chamberlain, our secretary,
introduced and facilitated the "30 second intro". Anyone who
wanted to had the opportunity to introduce themselves and briefly
tell us about their practices or experience with hypnosis. Being
able to speak about who you are and what you do in a very short
time is a wonderful tool to have and we are giving you the
opportunity to hone this technique at each of our meetings. We
received lots of positive feedback and definitely felt that it
also presented a great opportunity for all of us to connect and
begin to know one another. As our goal is to create an "open
forum" environment for the hypnosis community, I think we're off
to a good start.

As we are trying to plan as far out in the year as possible, and
as we know how quickly time flies, I'd like to plant the seeds
for some future events that we could do as a community to promote

Newsletter for NGHWA Chapter
January 2006

Hello fellow NGHer's, Hypnotherapists, Hypnotists, and anyone
else reading this:

I'd like to introduce myself as the new president for the
Washington State Chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists. My
name is Jackie Foskett. My business, Healing Hypnotherapy is a
growing Eastside practice (Newcastle) since 1999. I am also
still working in the dental world 2 days per week as a Registered
Dental Hygienist. Having been involved in the healthcare arena
for almost 28 years now, I know this is an area that needs our
hypnotherapy profession. And, my goal as President of NGHWA, is
to help bring more awareness of our profession to the healthcare
professions, as well as to more of the general public. They
really do need us, as hypnosis/hypnotherapy is a wonderful
vehicle to access the vast network of the mind, body, emotional
and spiritual connections, igniting changes and healing in a
wonderfully holistic manner. Please join me in getting the
message out there that we have a gift to share with our fellow
human beings!

We have a great Board this year and intend to keep up the
momentum and success set up by the previous Board. I want to
personally thank: Keith Livingston, Laurie Finkelstein, Bev
Byrant, and Evie Chan, for all the hard work they did and the
many excellent meetings in 2005.

The other current 2006 Board members are:
Vice President: John Gore
Secretary: Cheryl Chamberlain
Treasurer: Evie Chan (again!!-Thank you Evie)
Events Coordinator: Open

We all look forward to meeting each of you in the coming year.

February meeting: Keith Livingston: NLP--Submodalities, the keys
to the castle.

More information will follow in next newsletter. Of course, at
any time you can go to www.nghwa.org for more information on our
guest speakers and events.

Other meetings' guest speakers are still in the planning stages.
If you know of anyone that might be interested, please contact
one of the Board members.

I'd like to remind you that January is the month to renew your
local NGH membership. For a mere $50.00 you get free continuing
education at all the meetings, as well as the opportunity to
display your flyers for your business and events, and have your
website link on the www.NGHWA.org link. We are also
investigating the possibility of doing joint advertising this
year, which would certainly be another benefit of being a member.

If you are not currently a member of the National Guild of
Hypnotists, www.ngh.net, the national organization, I would
encourage you to join and be part of a nationally recognized
organization. NGH membership provides many opportunities for
continuing education, which for me is one of the main reasons I
became a member. They send out magazines, with articles that
will keep you abreast of other practitioners' views, tools, and
successes. They also provide an annual conference full of
continuing ed, as well as other seminars throughout the year to
fill your toolbox for working with clients and doing business. I
enjoy being part of an organization where I can regularly
dialogue with other professionals, feel connected and not
isolated. If you are not currently a member, please feel free
to dialogue with one of our members to gain additional insight
into the advantages of membership. We'd love to have you on our
team to help promote our profession of hypnosis.

Another reminder: January is the month of resolutions!! Hypnosis
is great for motivation, breaking habits, building new healthy
habits, and releasing behaviors that are no longer serving a
person's well being. Promote your business at your gym, be a
speaker for a local community group, put a special on your
website---use this month to further your business and the many
uses of hypnotherapy.

Following my message, is a message from our Secretary, Cheryl
Chamberlain. She has summarized our last meeting for you, in
case you missed it. Thank you, Cheryl for your time and effort.

Finally, I wish for all of you, a most abundant 2006, filled with
creativity, passion, lots of clients to serve, and whatever else
it is you wish to manifest on this planet.

See you at the meetings!
Sincerely,
Jackie Foskett, CHT

Hello NGHers,

I hope your holidays were healthy happy and memorable for all.
We are so excited for the upcoming year 2006 to be a very
positive and beneficial year for all of who attend the NGH of
Wash., each month. Jackie Foskett and John Gore and myself
Cheryl Chamberlain just finished our first conference call and I
would say, it was very successful.

Last month we had a very powerful speaker. Maria Marsala a Small
Business Builder, former Wall Street Trader & Licensed One Page
Consultant. She discussed concepts on how to power up your
business with a, "One page business plan."

She talked about the five important parts of a business plan.
She showed us how to increase our productivity. We created a one
sentence business vision statement. We created one specific
objective and strategy to help us monitor and see the big picture
for 2006 and beyond. And last but not least, she showed us how
to use an action plan to help us move forward.

The One Page Business Plan is a fast, easy way to write a
business plan. It links three very important concepts: planning,
implementation, and accountability.

Maria also gave everyone who attended, a free CD and sent many
useful emails to all of us.

These are just some of the perks you can receive just by
attending our NGH of Wash., Meetings each month.

We look forward to seeing each of you on Jan 13th. Please come
and welcome our new President Jackie Foskett, Vice President John
Gore and myself, Secretary Cheryl Chamberlain, as well as our
continuing Treasurer, Evie Chan.

Hope to see you soon,
Cheryl

The Future of the Chapter Hangs in the Balance...

Tomorrow's meeting is also when we elect next year's officers.
Unfortunately, most of this year's officers and those who were
nominated for next year will be unable to serve and have turned
down the nomination. Currently, we have three candidates for five
positions.

Evie Chan has agreed to do another year as treasurer (if we elect
her, of course). We currently have Jackie Foskett nominated for
Vice President and Cheryl Chamberlain for Secretary. We don't yet
have anyone nominated for President or Events Coordinator.

Let me tell you, being an officer has been rewarding for me. You
might be surprised at how much credibility being an officer gives
you with the public and fellow hypnotists. It's opened a lot of
doors for me. If you're looking to raise your profile in the
industry or gain credibility with clients, consider an officer's
position. If you have ideas about the direction you'd like to see
the chapter go, consider one of the officer's positions.

The officers are required to meet every quarter (we've been
meeting before each chapter meeting, but it's not required). You
can meet by phone if you wish. Here's a little bit about the
positions...

-----------------------------
President

The President is in charge of running both the chapter meetings
(or designating someone to run them) and the quarterly board
meetings.

Vice President
Takes over if the President is unable to attend.

Secretary
Keeps notes of both board meetings and chapter meetings.

Treasurer
Keeps track of the chapter finances.

Events Coordinator
Books speakers for the chapter meetings, coordinates other events
during the year, if any (classes, special events etc.).
-----------------------------

The Events Coordinator position is certainly key. Without high
quality speakers, the chapter goes downhill quickly. As Events
Coordinator, you would contact people to come and speak for us.
Laurie Finkelstein has done a wonderful job this year. She tells
me she's really enjoyed getting to meet folks--many of them top
experts in the field. Laurie has us booked out through March of
2006 so the new EC can take some time to get started. We really
need someone to step up and fill this position for us.

So, if you'd like to be an officer, please contact me before noon
on Friday. You can call me @ 206.721.8751 or email me -
president@...

Hypnosis for Smoke-Free Holidays

Tomorrow's meeting is going to be very different from our usually
meeting. We're opening our doors to the general public for a FREE
presentation on the benefits of hypnosis for smoking cessation.
The general public gets there at 7:30 (the meeting for us
hypnotists starts @ 7:00). We'll have a brief introduction, 15
minutes on hypnosis (a pre-induction talk), 15 minutes on why
hypnosis is so good for smoking cessation and a brief group
induction.

Then the public will have the chance to meet us. If you're a
local chapter member, you can bring hypnosis related products to
sell.

We've sent out a series of press releases and some of the members
have done some publicity of their own for the event. Hopefully,
we'll get a good crowd. If you know anyone who wants to stop
smoking or is interested in hypnosis, bring them along.

Cheryl Chamberlain is going to be performing the group induction
and I was planning to do the pre-induction talk. Unfortunately,
the person we had picked to do the 15 minutes on "why hypnosis is
so good for smoking cessation," has had to cancel. I can do both
the pre-induction segment and the smoking cessation segment if
need be but I'd rather have one of our other local members rise
to the ocassion. It's your chance to raise your profile and get
your message in front of some potential clients.

So, if you're a local chapter member and you're interested in
giving either a 15 minute pre-induction talk, or doing 15 minutes
on why hypnosis is so effective for smoking cessation, please
email or call me before noon on Friday.

Great American Smokeout Events

The Great American Smokeout is November 17th this year. In case
you missed last month's meeting, we're planning a series of
events to "coattail" that event.

One such event will be part of next month's meeting. Here's a
blurb...

+++++++++++++++++
In honor of "The Great American Smoke-Out,' the members of the
Washington State Chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists are
opening their doors to the general public for a FREE presentation
on the benefits of hypnosis for smoking cessation. Join us as we
reveal the common myths and misconceptions about hypnosis. Come
and experience an hypnotic induction (if you choose). Meet our
Member Hypnotists and get your questions answered. Whether or
not you're ready to become a non-smoker, you'll enjoy attending
this free presentation as you learn the many ways hypnosis can
benefit your life.
+++++++++++++++++

We'll start the public event at 7:30. If you're a local chapter
member, you can bring products to sell.

If you'd like to put a smoking cessation related event together
(a free speech, lecture, discounted sessions etc.) let me know.
We'll be happy to put it up on the web site and give you some
resources to help promote it.

We've also put together some wonderful resources for smoking
cessation...

There are flyers and press releases to help you publicize things.
There's a one page hand out to let people know why hypnosis is so
effective for smoking cessation. Evie Chan put together a
tremendous set of resources to help with your sessions: When
smokers quit, Smoking trigger profile, Smoking Statistics, an
FAQ, After Stopping Smoking, Smoker's questionnaire and Stop-
smoking success directions. They're available for download
here...

http://www.nghwa.org/smoking.htm

Please go there, print out what's useful to you and help us get
folks to our events. Remember to tell your clients, coworkers and
friends to join us for our meeting on the 18th.

You can also take a look at our web site to see what events we've
got listed so far...
http://www.nghwa.org/

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Nominations

Speaking of officers, it's time to elect next year's. We took
nominations at the last meeting. Since I forgot to mention it in
the last newsletter, I thought I'd open up the floor to the
members now.

So, if you are a member of the local chapter and you know someone
who you think would be a good candidate, please let me know by
this Friday (either by phone - 206.721.8751 or email -
president@...).

The officer's positions are...

President
Vice President
Events Coordinator
Secretary
Treasurer

The board positions are about like you'd think. The President
runs the chapter and board meetings. The VP takes over in case
the President can't. The Secretary keeps notes, the Treasurer
keeps track of money and the Events Coordinator lines up the
speakers.

In order to be an officer, you must be a member of the local
chapter. In order to nominate or vote, you must be a member of
the local chapter too. If you'd like to be a member you can find
out more about how to do it here...

http://nghwa.org/member.htm

At 7:00 we'll be voting for next year's officers, so get there on
time on the 18th!

Beign an officer of the state chapter looks great on your
"resume" and it's a lot of fun. Most of this year's officers
(including yours truly) are stepping down and we need some good
folks to step up to keep the momentum going.

+++++++++++++++++++++
Hypnosis in the News

As many of you probably already know, Ormond McGill passed away
on October 19th. Mr. McGill, known as the "Dean of American
Hypnotists," was 92 years old. He was a fixture at the NGH
national conventions, a noted author and performer.

The National Guild has set up a web page in their forum for folks
to express their sorrow for his death and their joy at having
known him.

http://www.ngh.net/MemberForums/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=31
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

January 4th (World Hypnotism Day)

It's time to start thinking about World Hypnotism Day. We'll
probably do something similar to what we're doing for Hypnosis
for Smoke-Free Holidays. You know, press releases, public events
etc. If you've got an idea for an event you'd like to hold, let
us know.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think
might be interested. And remember to invite folks to the
meetings!

Learn to Make Your Own Hypnosis CDs

I've put together a program on how to make your own audio
recordings. Most hypnosis hobbyists don't realize how easy it is
to do and most professional hypnotists don't realize how much
money they're leaving on the table by not having products.

It's called How to Make Your Own Audio Products on a Shoestring
Budget. Since you're on the NGHWA email list, I'm offering it to
you at a $40 discount, but only through the 15th.

You can read more about it here...

Hypnosis in the News

Why does Hypnosis for Weight Loss Produce Long-Term Results?

Henrik Altréus, of the Milton H. Erickson Clinic of Sweden,
recently sent me information about hypnosis and weight loss. It
turns out that hypnosis, when added to cognitive behavioral
psychotherapy, improves weight loss results significantly
compared to cognitive behavioral therapy alone.

The hypnotic subjects continued to lose weight after the
treatment had ended (compared to the cognitive behavioral group).
Why would this be, and why is it important? The implications are
profound. Read the full article here...

Past Life Regression as Therapy
With Mary Lee LaBay
September 9th, 2005 - 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Mountlake Terrace Public Library
23300 58th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043
Admission: $5 (free for chapter members)
********************

Friday's meeting will be based on Mary Lee LaBay's latest book,
Past Life Regression: A Guide for Practitioners, this meeting
will surely raise your level of proficiency in this subject.
Bring all your questions! Mary Lee's books and cd's will be
available for purchase and autograph (or bring your own copy for
autograph).

Mary Lee will show us how for her, past life regression is a
valuable tool for providing holistic care to clients and
patients. Beyond satisfying curiosity, exploring past lives can
uncover roots to issues, provide clues to personality, habits,
health conditions, talents, relationships and so much more.
Because clients may spontaneously experience a regression, the
wise professional will want to be prepared even if they don't
normally offer past life regression in their office. In this
content rich class, Mary Lee LaBay, author, instructor, and noted
regressionist, will teach you how to speak to clients about the
possibility of past lives, how to work with "resistant" clients
and have a success every time, how to apply therapy within the
regression session, and how to keep your sessions non-leading and
"clean" to avoid false memory.

Mary Lee is the author or co-author of several books including
Irresistible Attraction: Secrets of Personal Magnetism and
Through the Open Door: Secrets of Self-hypnosis (both with Kevin
Hogan) and Hypnotherapy: A Client-Centered Approach.

Hypnosis in the News

I (Keith Livingston) was recently interviewed by Tanya Martinez
from Expert Village. We covered a lot of ground and it was a lot
of fun. I posted the interview for you to hear here...

http://www.hypnosis101.com/expertvillage.htm

Here are some of the questions we covered...

What is hypnosis?
How does self-hypnosis work?
Can hypnosis help with weight loss?
Can hypnosis help me to stop smoking?
How can I get training for hypnosis?
What are the stages of hypnosis?
What is a hypnosis script?
Does hypnosis really work?
What are the benefits of hypnosis?
How do I find the right hypnotherapist?

If you have your shingle out, you'll get calls for intereviews.
This interview can give you an idea of what kinds of questions
you might expect.

Hunter will be presenting there. Be sure to check it out. Roy
asked me to include this blurb...

My NEXT Parts Therapy 2-day Workshop will be presented next month
as a post-convention workshop at the NGH Convention. Learn how to
help clients resolve inner conflicts!

Parts therapy, properly facilitated, can often help people
resolve inner conflicts and achieve goals even after other
hypnotic techniques have failed. I've been teaching this
profoundly beneficial technique for 17 years now, taught years
ago by the late Charles Tebbetts.

Date: Aug. 15-16, after the NGH Conference, near Boston.

The official NGH Convention is set for August 12-14, 2005 at the
Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center - Marlborough, Massachusetts. To
register for Roy's workshop and/or register for the NGH
Convention, go to www.ngh.net. Click on Convention at the left-
hand menu, and click on the appropriate workshop(s) you wish to
attend.

If you've never attended an NGH Convention, you owe it to
yourself to do so at least once! If you see me at the NGH
convention, please let me know that you saw my announcement here!

Child hypnosis cited as new kidney disease treatment

For children who suffer from kidney disease and have to face the
painful prospect of blood tests and even dialysis, one doctor is
proposing an intriguing new procedure.

At a Conference of Australasian renal specialists in Hobart
today, hypnosis is being suggested as an important medical tool
for treating children.

Forensic Hypnosis

WASHINGTON – It's a crime-fighting tool that often kept secret,
but hypnosis has been used in high profile cases in the D.C. area
and across the country.

"We gained additional investigative information, probably a
couple of pages worth of the getaway vehicle and the physical
makeup of the potential suspect," said senior special agent John
Kilnapp of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Forensic hypnosis was put on the map in 1976 in California when a
school bus driver and 27 students were kidnapped and buried
alive. The driver escaped, underwent hypnosis, and remembered the
license plate number of the abductors' van.

Hypnosis for Hot Flashes

Most women going through menopause experience hot flashes.
Hormone replacement therapy helps, but many women have abandoned
the treatment because of the risk of breast cancer.

With hypnosis…

"We found a 58% decrease in the frequency of hot flashes, and
also very importantly, 76% decrease in the severity of hot
flashes."

********************

As chapter president, I get asked questions about a lot of
subjects related to hypnosis. Two of the most common are
marketing and making hypnosis recordings. So in the spirit of
providing you with practical, immediately useful information you
can use, we're hitting both those hot topics this month.

We've got Cheryl Vaulk speaking about marketing and I'll be doing
a bit on recording.

++++++++++++

Cheryl Vaulk has twenty-five years of professional sales and
marketing management experience. She is the co-owner of
Transformational Partners, L.L.C., dedicated to supporting
health, training and leadership professionals with sales,
marketing and training services.

Cheryl will show us how to create effective marketing materials
and grow our clientele.

* Learn three essential keys to gain new clients
* Find out the secret of easy low cost marketing
* Apply proven marketing principles to making your business more
profitable
* Discover what the busiest professionals do right and how you
can too

++++++++++++

I'm a former recording engineer/producer who has produced lots of
hypnosis and NLP related products and I'll show you how to do the
same.

Why would you want to make recordings???

You can substantially increase your income, prestige and your
effectiveness by adding audio products to the mix (CDs and/or
cassettes).

* Have products to sell to clients
* Add revenue without additional advertising costs
* Make money when giving speeches or other public appearances
* Sell those potential clients who think your sessions are "too
expensive"
* Use recordings as a way to get more clients
* Record client sessions to reinforce your work

I'll answer all those pesky audio questions such as "What
microphone should I use," "How do I make CDs," "Where do I get
background music," and "How do I mix the background music with my
voice?"

We'll even create an actual audio product right on the spot.

Devin Hastings Workshop

Devin Hastings flew out to present to us a while back. Now, he's
is offering a workshop on June 11th and 12th in Kirkland, WA.

In this fun and informative two-day class you are becoming
certified by the Diabetes Research Association of America to be
Certified Diabetes Motivational Coach(TM).

With this powerful credential, you have a unique knowledge and
ability to help those who suffer from diabetes which is a disease
that affects millions of people. If you want to know how many
you can help then start asking friends and co-workers how many
diabetics they know. You will be amazed at how many people are in
need of your trained services.

It's all about abundance so please remember Zig Ziglar's famous
words: "You can have anything you want in life so long as you
help enough people to get what they want."

Hay fever may be cured by self-hypnosis

exposure to allergens.

health…

Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) With Deborah Kaye

"Learn how to apply EFT within a hypnosis setting as an effective
tool to help expedite the transformation process."

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Therapy, is a simple dynamic approach
to working with the meridians of the body/mind to explore
potential "disruptions" in a persons energy field. By tapping the
meridians of the body while a person is fully engaged in the
feeling, one can very quickly allow the energy to clear. Then,
using the tools of hypnotherapy to reframe, resolve, refresh, and
rebuild becomes more efficient and effective, as it no longer has
to "scrape it's way through the clogs" in the emotional/energy
field.

Hypnosis in the news:

This time I'm doing something different with the "hypnosis in the
news" segment. Recently, there's been a spate of bad press
concerning hypnosis and in particular, the actions of a few
unethical or unskilled practitioners. The two problem areas seem
to be implanting false memories and unsanctioned client/hypnotist
relations. You should know about these areas to both protect
yourself and speak intelligently if these subjects are brought
up.

So although this segment is negative in tone, I can be very
positive in helping us conduct ourselves professionally and
safely.

False Memory
During testimony yesterday, clinical psychologist John Boyd of
Charlottesville said hypnosis can heighten imagination and make
someone more vulnerable to suggestions. He also said someone's
"recollection after hypnosis could be false or it could be true."

More on False Memory
But John testified Wednesday that she felt the doctor who
performed the hypnosis led her... "I thought that he was
manipulating that," John said. "That's what it looked like on
that tape - like he was leading me by the nose."

Hypnosis and Diabetes

"Solid, practical information for how a hypnotherapist can
powerfully and responsibly help a person with diabetes."

We're very pleased to welcome Devin Hasting as our speaker this
month. He's going to talk about working with diabetes using
hypnosis. This is the kind of presentation I personally love.
Practical information about how to truly help a group of people
that could use our help!

You'll get handouts and information you can use immediately to
help a person with diabetes. Come and learn or stay home and miss
out.

Firing Clients?

Recently Wendy Ronning (from Stage Hypnosis Center) wrote an
article on firing "problem" clients.
http://www.stagehypnosiscenter.com/public/242.cfm

I think it applies to hypnotherapists too. In my experience, it's
a small percentage of people that cause most of the frustrations
of the job. When you learn to ease those people out of your
professional life, things get easier. Check it out and see what
you think.

Local Hypnosis Success Stories

My wife, son and I recently moved up to Marysville. In my new
mailbox was a complimentary copy of the local newspaper. One word
on the front caught my eye - "hypnosis." I turned to the article
and found it featured none other than our good friend (and ex-
officio) Margarett Mae from White Horse Holistic Hypnotherapy! I
talked to Margarett and she said she'd managed to get that
article published in several places. Here's an excerpt...

"It (hypnosis) can be helpful in changing attitudes, increasing
self-confidence, learning enhancement, memory improvement,
stress, habit control, and countless other areas of personal
concerns. Self-hypnosis has proved successful in advancing
athletic skills and is used by Olympic contenders in many
nations."

Congratulations! More info on Margarett's practice can be found

Our former president, Ron Stubbs landed a great stage hypnosis
gig at the Tulalip Casino. You can see him there tonight. Here's
a blurb...

"Ron Stubbs will be performing the Ron Stubbs OUTRAGEOUS comedy
hypnosis show at the Tulalip Casino, Canoes Cabaret in Tulalip on
Thursday, March 10, 8 pm. There is no cover charge for this show.
Ron's been playing to SRO crowds and getting rave reviews from
all over the US. Come on out, support your former Chapter
President, have a great time laughing and see one of the premier
stage hypnotists in the Northwest perform."

note...

A Personal Note from Chelsea
Dear NGH folks,

Hi! Thank you for inviting me to speak again. I look forward to
seeing you all.

I want my talks to be interactive, provocative, fun, and most
importantly, relevant to the people I am speaking to.

Although I can speak on many subjects, people have often said
they most love being able to ask me questions, tapping into my
almost 30 years of experience in private practice and sort of
"picking my brain" so to speak to help them in their practice, or
to get started.

Like Milton Erickson, over the years I developed a reputation for
quickly helping people to success where all previous attempts had
failed. I came to love working with really tough cases, the
tougher the better. I enjoy spontaneity as well as a challenge.

So… I ask you to bring to the meeting any and all questions you
may have regarding client (or self) problems, or challenging
situations, and I will answer with a variety of approaches I
might try based on my experience, and explain the reasoning
behind my choices. Let's have fun with "Best Case Scenarios for
Worst Case Clients"!

You may be shocked, intrigued, enamored, repulsed, attracted,
overjoyed or dumbfounded by the responses I give, but I promise
you, that you will also…now, sooner or later… hear… or feel… a
faint sound… inside your heart… your head… of a key… turning an
ancient lock… releasing new potentials… inherent ability… to
help… to heal… unencumbered by past beliefs… or limitations… or
somebody else's voice inside your head… that inadvertently…
planted the fear… of going out on a limb… and the willingness… to
try anything… in the service of healing. And why shouldn't the
sky be the limit… on your potential to remember… experience…
yourself… your clients… as perfect… perfectly able to become
whole once again? And wasn't it worth it then… to try
everything?

But then I digress. Or is it Trancegress?

Anyway, any way, come to the meeting and let's have some fun!

Feel free to email me questions in advance, or suggest topics you
would like to learn more about. They can be "real" or
hypothetical situations. If appropriate, I will teach any
technique I suggest, but that you may not be familiar with.

Peace and a thousand hugs to you all,
Chelsea Alexis Gabriel

"A good candidate for parts therapy would be someone experiencing
internal conflict, as might be evidenced by a client who says, "A
part of me wants to get rid of this weight while another part
wants to keep on eating!" The ego part desiring to be attractive
is in conflict with the inner child (or some other part) wanting
the pleasure of sweets, etc....Appropriate use of parts therapy
can help the two parts in conflict achieve resolution." -- C.
Roy Hunter, The Art of Hypnotherapy
