Techniques in Treating Depression
OR: "Been down so long it looks like UP to me!!"…
Kate Bowditch, MA, LMHC
What is depression? Are sadness and depression the same? What are the
different faces of depression? How should I be directing the treatment
of a person I feel is depressed? How should I think about medications?
Depression is one of the major diagnoses of our time, and has multiple
modes of expression. Young and mature, male and female—depression is
expressed individually, yet has common symptoms which block the
pleasure and motivation centers of the brain.
Treating depressed clients can be challenging. Many of the clients you
may already see are depressed, yet present with simple symptoms. Many
depressed people have been depressed for so long they have forgotten
how to be otherwise, and may not understand that deep change is possible.
Come and talk about the many ways to reach your clients, to help them
formulate a brighter, more hopeful future.
Kate Bowditch is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and
Hypnotherapist. She uses an eclectic approach to address the many
issues of depression. She will be speaking about depression, helping
define it and its many faces. She has been a Triage Supervisor on the
Crisis Line for four years, which allows her to speak directly and
evenly about the possibility of Suicide in your clients, and its
prevention. This is an aspect of your private practice she will
address, and can help you be better prepared to handle.
