You should start with Google or Yahoo or your search engine of
choice. You should also check out some of the clinical journal
databases. There are apparently several studies on hypnosis as a
method for weight loss or as an adjunct therapy to cognitive-
behavioral therapy.
Here's one citation to start you on the road:

As to how it works, I'm not sure. Mind over matter? Interrupting
patterns and triggers that lead to overeating or eating bad food?
Increasing metabolism?
