Hi Ron,

> I thought hypnosis was just perfect for this sort of thing... ;-(
he he! if there were easy answers to things then people wouldn't have problems!
There is no way to change at a deep level without a firm commitment of
time & effort on your own part.
Therapists do something to you and you hope it sticks. Or else they
unlock some potential that was in you already but was blockedfrom
coming to play in your life.
The eastern schools of change like yoga & meditation & Tai Chi are
designed for poor people to be able to learn to change themselves -
you can strip out talk of chakras and strange energies - you just do
what they tell you to do and you will start to sense your inner
workings (both physical and emotional) and then you can learn how to
make the best of yourself.
The big learning hump that most people cant get over seems to be the
simple thing that you must learn how to calm your nervous system ,
relax your muscles and bring your proprioception into concious
awareness - which allows you to feel your tense muscles and feel what
state your nervous system is in. This then lets you understand your
emotions better. If you are not getting steady progress at these
things your method is not working.
Sounds easy but it takes time - a lot of time and part of your mind
resists this training - if you cant see thru this part of your minds
defences you don't have a chance of changing.
The Kundalini Yoga taught by Yogi Bhajan is by design about the
fastest way of getting into this stuff although I have seen people
changed quickly and slowly by many methods.
Its a hit and miss business as in most of these things really good
teachers are rare so you have to shop around. I meet more and more
people that get into it from DVD's too - people that get good changes
without ever going to a live lesson.
This stuff has an overlap with western hypnotherapy I think but is
much more in the mind/body view of things. Quick fix therapies address
specific problems focusing more on the 'mind'. Mind/body things teach
you how to adjust your entire system to bring it closer to the proper
rest state which we all lose in childhood due to the ravages of
stress. As you move towards this state your systems sort themselves
out and you learn so much about yourself and come to understand other
people better. Neurotic defenses fall away leaving compassion.
Also buddhist & yogi philosophy that sounded like flowery twaddle
actually starts to make sense so you can confuse the hell out of your
friends which is fun.
Go jump in at the deep end?
