He was possibly a bit mad - best not try to be like him! I think he
was keen on meditaiton too.

Hypnosis/hypnotherpy?
Or if you can't afford that any somatics systems should do the job if
you work hard at it. This is the specialist area of somatics - the
understanding that habits of negative thought and self-perception
involve more than just our 'mind' they are embedded in our nervous &
glandular systems and muscles too. These are the infra-structure of
our body - when they are freed to work better the systems that sort us
out can do our job and clear unwanted habits. This is what rational
buddhists think of as 'clearing karma' - it has nothing to do with
past lives or cosmic judgement systems - it is the understanding that
the relentless overloading of our defensive response systems causes us
to stress up, become over-reactive and acquire layers and layers of
dysfunctional 'defenses' which manifest as the negative habits of
thought, feeling emotion and motion which trap too many of us in our
own messed up minds and bodies. The calming of the nervous system in
hypnosis/meditation is a good way to start. The techiques in
buddhist/yoga meditation and yoga accelerate the process.
The 'treating' of an individual bad habit is not as effective as the
all-over re-adjustment of the system to allow it to have its proper
rest- state - where it will clear compulsions and habits by itself
once the nervous sytem calms and the 'body' frees up.
It works pretty good for me anyhow!
Good Luck
Keith.
