Hi Mary,
Welcome. I turned my life around using a whole load of things
including self-hypnosis.
I would say if you have a learning 'hump' to get over pay a
hypnotherapist to teach you self-hypnosis - and techniques for
dissociation and stuff.
You can reinforce your skills going to buddhist meditation groups.
'Calming down' in groups works better than doing it alone (not sure of
all the reasons why).
If you get a group with a lot of serious meditators it is really
wonderful - I go to a Chinese Cha'an (their word for zen) group and it
is so much better than I can achieve at home. Zen people sit longer
than others and it is the length that gets the magic.
A lot depends on your budget - I was forced into this stuff as there
is no way I can afford professional fees. I am not sad about that
because this stuff teaches you up to how to help yourself.
If your pain is cause by Musclular Skeletal Disorder I might have some
(contentious!) advice about that as I used to suffer from RSI.
Keith.
