Re: [UKhypno] another newbie scoobie

Hello Androshi ,
2008/11/4 Monchello Androshi <warlocke_rising@...>:

I did a little bit of hypnotherapy training (9 days). I had no money
to do any more but it helped me understand meditation and yoga a bit
better. I started to do these things as they are cheap and then
discovered that for me they are very excellent!

Praying - is this in the hope a god wil change the world to suit you
or is is it a way of trying to understand yourself better?
I think positive affirmations only have a rather slight affect and
have read a few things that say that. They don't seem to go very deep.

I believe in FM Alexanders analysis that we are stressed by
civilisation and this puts our mind/body out of adjusment and that
causes physical/mental tension (repressed emotions). The systems that
release our muscles and trauma and calm our nervous systems dont work
properly. Working on this problem has profound psychological benefits
especially if you have big problems as I once did.

> how can i make a subconcious tape work for myself?
I'm not sure this is possible for many people!
I do Kundlaini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan as my main technique.
Also I will meditate with any group that is cheap and close by. Zen or
(Cha'an (chinese zen)) is usually the best. Neither of these makes
much use of positive affirmations or direct suggestion. The negative
things we tell oursleves come from a deep place - trying to drown them
out with positives is not as effective as removing the negative.

The problem to me is that any attempt to change your-self runs up
against the minds defences - your sense of self/ego prefers you to
stay the same. We are built like this and it is a devil of a job to
change that - most people can't. Logic and positive thinking won't
change much.
If you have a proper guru or hypnotherapist they can see these
defenses and help you break through them. Some people can do this on
their own - hopefully someone else can tell you how - I can't - sorry.

If like me you are not so rich or lucky or clever you need something else.
If you just meditate/self hypnotise for long periods you find you will
become calmer and systems in the body that relax us and get rid of
tense muscles (and emotional repression) spring to life. The best
techniques of Kundalini Yoga (and other methods) accelerate these
processes hugely. You discover that the ego's defences can be breached
by some surprising cunning tricks. These tricks work at a very deep
level. They help your system to re-adjust itself back to how it would
be if it had never suffered the sensory overload and trauma's of
modern life.

> has anybody had any success with making their own tape in the group?
One thing I haven't tried but intend to is to record myself talking
for an hour. Pick a subject and just do it - don't stop and return to
the subject when you drift off. Listen to it and you will learn a lot
- so they say. This is an ancient yogic technique - a scribe wrote
down what you said in the old days. I really must get onto this - I
think I must be able to record myself on my computer .

> but im not where i want to be in life.
This is the problem! If you do an awful lot of meditiation/yoga (or
what ever) your 'sense of self' changes. It becomes simpler and stops
wanting and wishing and yearning. You are just a receiver of
experiences and sensations which you put interpretations on. When you
have a large amount of accumulated neurosis from past negative
experiences the interpretations you put on things are too often
negative. When the neurosis goes then there is less interpretation and
hence less negativity. Something can hurt you now but afterwards it
has gone - it has left no trace - it will hurt you less because you
know it will pass. Nice things that happen pass too but you don't
interpret the passing of a good thing in a negative way.
The pleasant surprise is that as you get more into this state you feel
good - the good feeling comes from within - evolution gave us that so
we will get out of bed and do stuff. But civilisation took it away
overloading our response mechanisms causing us stress and repression.

Out of respect to this list which backs Evidence Based Medicine I must
say there is supposed to be no scientific evidence that this sort of
technique is valid. However those of us that do it would swear it does
work and believe that science is starting to study these things
properly at last and hopefully will validate them one day!
The ancient eastern systems were designed to help people cheaply. They
require a lot of time and effort. If you have the money a personal
hypotherapist may well be able to help you along a lot faster.

Happy exploring,
Keith.
