Interesting hatchet-job on Fritz Perls. Seems a bit journalistic. No idea
whether to believe it or not. I certainly don't think the description of
Perls in the video of the session is very fair or accurate, though. On the
other hand, having read his autobiography, I wouldn't put the ashtray incident
past him. There's virtually no research on gestalt therapy as far as I know.
So the real question here is whether the claims for the efficacy of Perls'
personal style of therapy, imitated by many people, are just pie in the sky.
There's no doubt Perls came up with some interesting ideas, techniques, etc.
The other weird thing about this article is that it attacks Perls' acerbic
style but is incredibly sycophantic to Ellis, who was known for being similarly
confrontational with many people.
