RE: Marketing - Office Location

Hi Peter,

I spent 20 years practicing from a clinic near to a very busy high street
and then, about 4 years ago moved my practice to a specially built
consulting room annexed to my home.

I worried that this would cause a downturn in enquiries for all the reasons
you mentioned - but I could not have been more wrong! It was the best thing
I could have done and wish I'd done it years ago!

I doubt whether those who may be phoning you (nor not) have any idea of
where you are based - so I would be more inclined to look at your marketing
and/or set up rather than your location. Other than the fact that you have
moved, what else has changed? Have you made amendments to your advertising,
your practice literature, your website?

Did you install an automatic redirection on your phone number from your old
to your new one? Did you do the same with your post?

How would people who phone you at your new location know whether you are
full or part time? Do you have a business line which is separate from your
home number? When you are giving treatment, how are phone calls handled -
someone to answer or straight to answering machine? Is the message on your
answering machine clear and professional, does it give practice information
(opening hours etc)?

I have known many therapists who have worked from two different locations,
but I have not yet heard any good feedback about doing so; so my advice
would be to settle in one place and one place only - where your patients
know where you are and when they can contact you; where you certificates etc
can be clearly and proudly displayed on the wall; where your consulting room
looks like what it is...a professional consulting room, used purely and only
for that purpose.

This is only my personal experience and opinion - but hope it helps.

Helen Lesser.
