I wish I could tell you
everyone is different.
I was put on lyrica 75 mg twice a day, now that want me to take neurotin for
headaches because it is cheaper but the lyrica works for me but is 125.00 a
month, then 50 after the first, you could try that and see if it would work.
just an idea

I have a programable shunt and I still get headaches and migraines.
I had a brain tumor, though it disappeared, the only thing that was affected by
it was my walking, writing and talking.

i have hydracephalus for 19 years. this year i started expierencing
headasches also. sometimes it has to do with the pressure of your
shunt what ever yours is at so now i have a programmable shunt inserted.
I wanted to know if a ct showed enlargement of the posterior end of
the ventricles or the back of the head if there would still be
headaches in the front in the forehead. The ventricles were not
enlarged in the anterior part or front just midline to posterior. The
headaches now are gone but I still feel pressure.I have an appt. on
Monday to see my neuro.
Has anyone had shunt malfuction symptoms and a ct show some
enlargement then the symptoms go away? I had been having headaches back
in December and a CT showed mild dilation and I had seizures.Since then
the headaches have been mild and seemed to have stopped.I have an appt.
with my neuro next week but now i'm not having any symptoms.
Erin,
where are u at...what state? If u are in NJ let me know/ Nobody
would listen to me as well or even help me regarding my hydro after
my first surgery...i went to a wonderful NS and am now well enough to
return to work today....Let me know if u would travel to NJ. that is
where I am located...
hope u will start feeling better, but my advice is to see another
NS....

Dear Tom, You don`t say anything about a shunt. I don`t have one because they were not available when I was born. I also have different degrees of headaches. Some are mild and some feel like my head is in a vice. Others are severe but they don`t last very long about a minute or so. Most of the time I don`t have headaches and there is no set pattern to the

Dear Tom,
You don`t say anything about a shunt. I don`t have one because
they were not available when I was born. I also have different degrees
of headaches. Some are mild and some feel like my head is in a vice.
Others are severe but they don`t last very long about a minute or so.

have you already had a shunt series, ct scan..? how many ventricles do
you have ? if so if they say your shunt is fine its a pressure
problem. also just because a ct a shunt series and everything looks
normal you can still be having a shunt malfunction i had 2 and had
these problems.

My daughter has hydro and has recently started having headaches that come on very hard (0-10) and only last maybe an hour. she is 8 and had her shunt since 6 mo (should have had it at 2 mo- long story) but she isn't able to fully explain how it feels. I'm wondering if some of you could relate to this? it's not constant like I imagine you are talking about, but I thought maybe you could verbalize it better for me. they are telling me they are migraines because the run in the family - I have them and so do my sister and mother.
as for those of you suffering from constant headaches, I know of one differential of a hydro headache because I suffer from it, only because I can only imagine it is what my daughter feels like when her shunt STARTS to malfunction. I have an issue with my occipital nerves and get occipital nerve blocks (shots of anesthetic/steroids) every few months which eventually broke the cycle (mostly) along with craniosacral therapy (all covered by medicaid) but the compression of the occipital nerve feels very much like the same pressure of hydro. I only know because I have had spinal headaches because of epidural shots. but it may be a way for a neurosurgeon to differentiate if it is a headache or fluid problem. this is only my opinion, but I know they use these occipital blocks for migraines that don't respond to meds and maybe if your dr is trying to just give you meds, going for this shot will either work or make them realize that it's fluid based. if you want any more info let me know and I will send it on, I know how bad it can get, not hydro headaches personally, but I have suffered a 6 month headache that no one listened to and had to go through 4 doctors before I found one that listened. I am a nurse and have done a lot of research. I'd like to help and if you can help my daughter, please share your experiences

Hello if there is anyone reading this :-) My name is Andrea, and I have
an almost 8month old daughter who suffers from Hydrocephalus. She was
diagnosed in the womb then had the Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy
procedure at 3 days old, was unsuccessful according to her Neurosurgeon,
she then 10 days later had a vp shunt put in, 10 days after the shunt
was put in, it was reprogramed down to a lower setting for more fluid to
flow, as her head was still getting bigger... Since then her shunt has
been working beautifully but in late August she took a GrandMal seizure
and has taken 2 more since. Children's hospital of Pittsburgh diagnosed
her with Epilepsy also now which she takes an anti-convulsant daily
for.. (her 1st 2 seizures lasted over 50 minutes!) Then just days ago
she was diagnosed with having Nystagmus in both eyes..(long story short
i guess..) So I start looking around on yahoo, and i found this,
not sure if I am actually posting this to a forum/group or what, kinda
confused LOL! But that is why I am here, looking to learn ars much as I
can about Hydrocephalus, etc. for the sake of my baby daughter :-) I'm
a very good listener and friend as well if anyone is ever looking for
someone to talk to or share hydro stories with. Thank you for reading

I don't really have any "advice" to give you but an I
guess "similiar" situation happened to me 5 days after I had my baby
(who had hydro) and I was driving back down to the Children's
hospital she was in after driving back home to get some
necessities, she was awaiting her shunt procedure, but anyhoo, 5
police cars pulled me and my fiance over, (wouldn't even let us pull
up the road, made us stop in the middle of the road which was sort of
a "main" kind of road) ordered us out of the car with our hands up
slowly, patted us down like criminals then finally told us that the
gas station/convenient store that we'd stopped at 5-10min before,
a "narcotics deal" went down in there and they thought we were either
the buyers or sellers! they trashed the inside of our car, dumped out
my purse, rumaged through the trunk, etc etc etc, we kept telling
them we were from out of town lil over an hour away going to
children's hospital of Pgh. up the road, even if we were going to do
some sort of drug deal we know no one in that area, they held up
traffic and us for around a half hour before they decided we had
nohing on us, no apology for anything, and when we rumaged through
all they went through, the 2 packs of smokes we had bought at that
convenient store, not even opened yet, were stolen! they stole our
unopened cigs ontop of it all!! That was a time I considered finding
an attorney to file a suit against the city of pittsburgh (allegheny
county to be more exact for anyone that knows anything about my area)
but I was so insulted, embarassed, and know exactally how you feel.
People can be cruel, 1st impressions are everything and when someone
thinks something about you its hard to convince them otherwise.
people can really be mean sometimes.

Just wanted to add a note. I had a headache for 2 years once. It
never went away. Then one day I gave blood at church and my
headache went away. It would return after about a month and I'd
repeat giving blood and it would go away. Turns out that the first
doctor that put my shunt in, put in an 18 pound pressure valve. My
neurosurgeon took it out, as he said, "to play with it". He
replaced it with a nine pound pressure valve and I hardly ever have
a headache now. It has been 9 years now since it was fixed.

Sean you could have this look at the site. It is an eye condition where your eyes move invonitallary. But I have never met a person with more than 20/200 with this condition. But it is possible.
Nystagmus Condition that involves involuntary, rapid, repetitive movements of one or both eyes from side to side, up and down, or in a circular motion. Nystagmus may be present at birth or, less commonly, may result from disease or injury. In some cases, the condition can reduce or interfere with vision. For example, children with nystagmus may frequently lose their place when reading. Placing a cutout reading window over words or using a card to "underline" text can be helpful.
I have learned the unfortunate truth of the discriminatory nature of some stores in my city.
Once again (yes it has happened before) some malicious store clerk has fasely accused me of shoplifting.
The first time was at a supermarket called Price Choppers (part of the same chain as Sobey's and Foodland, formerly known as IGA).
This was back in the summer time... I was walking through the store, "window" shopping if you will, checking out prices which fluctuate considerably depending on supply and demand and other things etc.
Finding no real deals, I left. Some bitch demanded I come back and let her rummage through my belongings (I carry a bag or backpack wherever I go because I don't have a car to leave it in).
I refused on the grounds that I have the right not to be subject to unreasonable searches (she targeted me out of the blue), she had no warrant, and she couldn't state what I allegedly had. There were no witnesses to this fictitious crime, not even a camera. I ignored her and walked on. Next thing I know, some big goon almost twice my height chased after me and wrestled me to the ground and tried to take my personal property from me. I refused and fought him off the best I could, including taking a bite out of his arm when he stuck it in my face.
By that time two security guards grabbed me and draggedme to their office, bad mouthing me all the way. They seized my belongings but confirmed (surprise!) I had no stolen merchandise.
The cops came and were equally as pissed - at ME! I feel I tried to defend myself against an assailant. They defended HIM though, not me.
But, acknowledging I stole nothing, they let me go - told me I was banned from the shopping mall.
No apologies for falsely accusing me or anything.
I never returned. When my father in law came to visit he wanted to get something at Canadian Tire (for those in another country it's a large retail chain selling hardware/outdoor/automotive supplies) and was pissed when I said we had to go to the one across town because I was banned from that mall. Oh well. As I said, I never returned.
Fast forward to last week. I was at another mall. Actually I was all over the place - shocked at the price of bread currently. I left one place, then another, and I come to A&P where I took a look at the price of bread (same as everywhere) and left. But when I got on the bus, I was followed by a cop who said I had stolen some unspecified "meat" from the supermarket. He didn't listen when I asked why I wasn't declared innocent until proven guilty as per Canadian law. He actually got on the bus and stopped it while this happened. Luckily at this point I've learned to keep receipts for every purchase for this very reason.
Satisfied that I had no stolen goods, he left the bus and we were on our way. No apologies. This time I wasn't banned from anywhere though.
I phoned the A&P headquarters the next day and explained what had happened. This time I did get an apology (and I told the woman on the phone that she was the only person to do so) and she said she'd contact the store.
I went back there yesterday -- and calmly, quietly, politely asked to speak to the manager. He talked to me and said he got the memo about me. He said he was going to continue the investigation once he knew who chased me down - it was indeed a cop, not a mall guard.
HE SAID that there is a protocol they try to follow to prevent theft and that one way or another, I fit the "look" of a suspect.
I told him that it is not my fault I am short (5'1") and that I can't control the fact that I have a "hidden" disability or that I'm not wealthy enough to wear the latest fashions.
Was that reason for me to be targetted? He said it wasn't. I informed him that the cop confirmed that I had none of his merchandise and that I did not appreciate being stereotyped in that way.
He did apologize and said he'd talk to staff about the incident and try to repair their public relations with customers. He said I'm welcome to shop there again.
But am I really? Now I feel quite vulnerable and know that A&P is not a safe place to shop because someone discriminates against me because of my appearance.
Afterwards my wife informed me about how my eyes seem to "wander" at times as well. She accused me of not paying attention when I try to look right at her. I've had to tell her that it is not deliberate.
I remember being concerned about that once before and asked my daughter's opthamologist. He said he didn't see anything wrong although maybe he didn't care as I wasn't his patient.
But all this has me dragged out. I feel targetted, discriminated against, victimized, and except for my wife, it seems like nobody gives a darn, nobody will listen to me.
I don't know how to protect myself against such people. I don't know how to -- take revenge. I shouldn't say that, I know, but it is how I feel. It's like some people want to walk all over me because I "look" different.
I need help. Suggestions. Advice. An advocate. A lawyer. An assault rifle. Something.
Don't get me wrong, I'm usually peaceful by nature, but these situations have stirred up so many uncomfortable emotions and I don't know what to do.
I did not think that Neurologist had the training to adjust the programmable
shunts I thought only Neurosugerns could do that. Unless your doctor has a
degree in both feilds. Because i know of someone who goes to a doctor like
that. Just wondering if they are starting to train some neurologist on how
to adjust the shunts?

I was advised a year or so ago to get my programmed shunt adjusted by a
neurologist. It was just pure hell finding a certified neuro surgeon to
do the adjustment. None in my area would touch it if they didn't install
the shunt. It was a nightmare. I finally found one in Reading
Pennsylvania who would do it at the request of my original
Neuro-surgeon. He examined the ctscan and found the ventricles did not
indicate a need for an adjustment.
