I completed it for my father, because there is little follow up for
older patients with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. I think a national
database is important to track the success, failure, and complications
of treatment.
My dad's neurosurgeon never suggested any follow up visits or tests
except on an "as needed" basis. Without annual visits, I wonder how the
outcome of shunt surgery for elderly patients can be predicted? His
neurologist had recommended *against* surgery (he'd be in a nursing
home if we had followed her advice).
Maybe this database can help doctors and patients better evaluate the
options.
