Re: [hydrocephalus] New member looking for advice...

Hi Lynn
Well I think I would get a third dr and see what he said I can not believe one say this and the other say that...I never had that my daughter was 6mos before we found out her regular Dr.(didn't know a thing just kept telling me, she is normal just has a large head) when I finely had a friend give her x-rays to a neuro. He found the problem and by the end of the week she had her shunt in...Telling us if she had not had the surgery and the fontell closes the pressure would cause her to be mentally retarded

Hello-
My name is Lynn and my boyfriend was recently diagnosed with
hydrocephalus at the age of 22.  It is likely that he has had the
condition for years, but was continuously misdiagnosed throughout
childhood.  We are relieved to finally know the source of his
problems, but are uncertain where to go from here.
After seeing several neurologists and doctors we have been given two
completely different opinions.  We have been told that he is not a
candidate for a shunt by some doctors, while others claim he is a
perfect candidate!  I guess I'm just wondering if contradictory
opinions like these are common.  This large difference between
professional medical advice has me confused about what our next step
should be.
Any personal advice or suggested reading would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Lynn
