I do not have congenital hydrocephalus, but I did wind up with it as a child due to heal trauma due to psychial abuse. I was abused by my step-father and most of that abuse was trauma to the head. I didn't show physical symptoms until 18 though so the hydrocephalus was arrested in chidhood but the scans from what doctors have told me was that I've had it since childhood though I wasn't born with it since I don't have a learger than normal head. I warn't treated though until I was 33 because doctors kept saying that I was having migranes and wouldn't give me CT scans or anything. It took a friend demanding they do one in an ER once saying we were not leaving until they did, when hydrocephalus was found. I suffered for years of worsening headaches and balanc problems from age 18 until 33 before anything was done. I guess it is a miricle I'm alive today.

Hi Jennifer,I have hydrocephalus from a cyst filled with cranial fluid. I do not have a shunt and am 64 years old. The condition is called porencephaly. I have researched and e-mailed institutions about my condition. It is a very large cyst and has diestroyed part of my brain. I don`t know why I am not retarded or in a wheelchair, nor do the doctors.
