>Chris, I had my first shunt at age 44 in 2002 and have had numerous
revisions since. On one of the shunts I had the so called ringing that
you speak about. When the noise stopped the headaches began and sure
enough the shunt failed. I had my last revision 4/06 because of
crystalization inside the shunt valve which put me to sleep on the
living room floor for 2 days before I was found. The neuro told me he
thought it was due to excessive protein in my body, and that it was
rare, and that it would never happen again. All has been well since.
