HI, I am Sue and am new to this site. My son Tom is 21 and was
shunted at 3 weeks. He had a revision at 3, a staff infection at 6
and a blockage at 21. We have been very lucky from what I read. This
last time was a nightmare though.
Tom moved into a living center in June and Oct 25th he had a
blockage that went unnoticed. He woke that morning vomiting, in the
afternoon he had a seizure and was unconscious, I was called and he
was taken to the hospital.
When the attending Dr. came into ER he asked who put in the shunt.
Even thought that was not Tom's DR now , we told him who put in the
shunt.(He has been with a new Dr. for 2 yrs) Our AWSOME Dr. of 18
yrs is retiring. He was called and said he would take Tom, BUT first
call another hospital on the way to see if Tom could get there and
have the presure drained. Every second counted here. The other
hospital said NO. He had 41cc of fluid on the brain. NORMAL is 8 to
12. We had GOD in our pocket. He had a blocked tube and it was
replaced. Nov 5th we came home. He has memory loss and sleeps all
day while recovering. He remembers some of this yr. but thinks he is
18 and wanted to know this morning if he should get ready for
school. Tom has brothers 23 and 12 and a sister 7.
My question is has anyone out there ever gone thorough this before?
