thanks for all of the feedback to answer some of your questions I
will be 40 this year and I have 3 daughters ages 4,3,2. I am familar
witht his diease and have been doing a lot of reading. I do want to
know so I am prepared and at the right time tell my children if I
were to test postive. My mothers family has swept this under the rug
for years and my Aunt has test postive for it. I suspect my mother
will also. (if she will ever get tested) I am scared about having
this becasue I feel like I am just starting to live my life and I am
also scared for my children. Its just frustating that my family has
been in denial for so long and now they can't any longer. I wish we
really knew much earler in life so I could have time to take this in.
I don't regret having children however it sickens me to know that
they could be at risk. I would rather know now than not to know.
Thanks again
Shannon

of insurance if you test positive for HD prior to having the
insurance before testing. There was a law passed recently in the US
making it illegal to be discriminated based on genetic testing
results, but it's rather difficult to prove you were denied coverage
because of the results.

you carry the gene shouldn't be taken lightly and you need to think
about different things prior to testing. It took me almost 10 years
to finally decide to get tested, so I understand what it's like
trying to decide to get tested or not.

questions you might have about the process. It's an individual
decision whether to get tested or not...but I strongly recommend
thinking about how you'd handle the results if it's positive and if
you are ready to hear those results because once you find out there
is no going back to being "at-risk".
