Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.
Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
In case you lose your mind, make sure it's backed up on disk somewhere.
Growing older is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

For the Health of It: It's been said that you don't stop laughing because you grow old—you grow old because you stop laughing. Of course, everyone grows older, but humor helps you feel young at heart!
