Subject: Re: [hudvalleybirthnetwork] bottle refusal
Hello
We have just overcame the same struggle in our house. Nina (6 Months)
refused vehemently to take the bottle from dad. She gave us a good
fight for 2-3 weeks, and my heart sank every time. You could hear her
say she feels betrayed...
My conclusions:
1. the sooner you start the better. She was OK with the bottle at 2
months, but got so used to be breastfed that it was harder on her to
take the bottle later on.
2. She was more cooperative when I gave her the bottle (contrary to
what people say it did NOT affect breastfeeding.
3. She didn't like to be held in a "cradle" hold (the one you'd hold
her if you nursed her). She had to lie down on her back, when I/dad am
lying at her side, caressing her and kissing her forehead.
4. when she got the hang of it, distracting her with the TV on, helped
as well. Cheap trick, but it works.
5. It's pretty wicked but they say that when they really starve they'd
take it. We didn't get there, though.
6. And most important. Now she's fine!!
Good Luck

Wondering if any of you have friends/clients who have dealt with this.
My friend who's baby is now 3 months and just returned to work a few
weeks ago is finding
that her baby is all of a sudden refusing to drink breastmilk out of a
bottle from her husband
or her babysitter. The breastfeeding is going great and up until she
returned to work the
baby was fine about taking an occasional bottle. They have tried Dr.
Brown's, Avent, Playtex
and cup feeding - but in the past few weeks it's been such a struggle
whenever the Mom is
not home! Babies are so smart:)
Any advice that I can offer her??
thanks
