At our last meeting people asked me to post the minutes on the yahoo group as
well, so
here they are:

Save the Date: Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 3, 2008. Jillian
Schwartz
will be hosting at her home in Buchanan, NY

Meeting Minutes - September 9, 2008

Attendance: Kim Immert, Lauren Taylor, Katherine Anderson, Margaret Yawman,
Nancy
McDaid, Melissa Creighton, Nancy Spanno, Jennifer Dembo, Debbie Aglietti, Erica
Charpentier, Michelle McCoy, Barbara DuPont, Katie Karpenstein, Tanya Tringali,
Carol
Merle-Fishman, Beth Shulman, Kristie Idoni, Sue Flamm, Mariella Camargo , and
Jackie
Kuschner

Topics:

Birth Expo - OCTOBER 19, 2008 - Destination Maternity in White Plains from
12:00
- 4:00. All practitioners who will be presenting at the Expo must arrive at
11:00 a.m. to
set up their table.

Press Releases: Have been sent to all major newspapers in the area, as well as
Westchester
Parent (who asked for photos of last year's exhibit). The Expo will also be
listed in the free
magazine Natural Awakenings which is distributed in Mrs. Green's Markets, some
providers offices, and other naturally minded stores. News 12 might also be
sending a TV
crew to cover the event.

Updates: Thursday, September 11, Jen Dembo went for a walk through of
Destination
Maternity for our Birth Expo. The facility and management were very
accommodating.
Here's an update:

Tables: we decided that based upon the number of exhibitors we'll have, we will
need 4 8
ft. tables and possibly one 6 ft. So between those, approx 18-20 folding chairs
and plain
white table cloths, our rental costs shouldn't be that high. Barb offered to
take on that
assignment.

Signage: We might not get clearance for signs at both entrances, but certainly
we can
place one at the main one. Carla from Destination Maternity asked if we could
provide the
easels to hold the signs. Sue suggested a schedule of events poster (which
could placed
directly outside the studio). Sue will be co-ordinating the practitioners who
offered to
give a 15 minute presentation on a topic of their choice. Margaret and Debbie
will be
working on creating and printing the signs.

Postcards announcing the upcoming event: she will be able to put them at the
register,
and place one in every bag. We will have the postcards printed up by Vistaprint
and they
will also be available for providers in the HVBN to place them in their offices
for clients to
take.

Gift bags - she's going to donate a bunch of stuff (fifty of them): potential
items include
coupons for a free class and spa treatment discounts, Mama Mio spa products,
other
samples of products the store carries. And she said we can add whatever we want
(Jackie
will be able to throw in some Astroglide!) Jackie also offered to create a list
with all of the
HVBN members to hand out for people to take home to reference back to later on.

There will also be a massage therapist from the spa to do chair massages for
attendees.

T-Shirts -
Melissa had T-Shirts printed up for the HVBN. The front says "Every Woman Needs
One"
and the back says "Who's Your Midwife?" with www.HudsonValleyBirthNetwork.org
written
on the bottom. They come in Dark Purple or Tye-dye and cost $12. If you'd like
to
purchase one, please contact Melissa.

Movies -
"Orgasmic Birth" by Debra Pascali-Bonaro is scheduling screenings. We have
been trying
to find a place to hold a screening for the public but have been unsuccessful so
far.
Ideally we'd like to hold the screening in January, and there is a small window
of possible
days that Debra Pascali-Bonaro will be available to come and speak at the
screening. We
are now starting to look into public libraries that have movie viewing rooms.
Margaret will
look into the White Plains Library first.

HVBN Scholarship -

Still working on it! Melissa asked if we might be interested in offering a
scholarship for a
nursing student at her school. We agreed we liked the idea, but still need to
decide on an
amount and any stipulations we would like to put on the scholarship offering
(such as it
only going to someone who will be working in maternity).

Other News -

*The Journal News would like to do an article on homebirth. If you're
interested in
participating please contact the journalist, Candice Ferrette at
cferrett@....
