"Dear Doulas

Caring for Abuse Survivors During Pregnancy and Childbirth
will be a two day workshop, to take place on July 14 and July 21.
Attendance at both days is necessary. The workshop will address both
past
and current abuse. Workshop is designed specifically with doulas in
mind
but is appropriate for anyone else working with pregnant and
childbearing
women.

Cost $25 dollars,
Workshop will be taught by the staff of CONNECT NYC and will be held
in
the CONNECT conference room 9AM-5PM.

Topics to be discussed
1. overview of dynamics and effects of domestic violence
2. overview of sexual assault
3. interactive workshop on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in
pregnancy and
childbirth
4. appropriate handling of disclosure
5. potential emotional complications resulting from abuse in the
antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum stages
6. safety for both client and doula
7. debriefing for participants, since many issues may come up...
