Re: [hudvalleybirthnetwork] Would a pre/post pregnancy, parenting center thrive in Westchester?

Ditto to Parent's Place!  I attended their groups with my children.  It is a nice mix of all age, race, and socioeconomic groups from Westchester.  It is, IMHO, Westchester's best kept secret for new Moms.

Hi Amy,

I agree that there is a dire need for a place for mothers to gather and connect with each other.  This has been my dream for the last 15 years...unfortunately the price of real estate in Westchester has made this dream unrealistic for those of us who have been trying to make it happen.  I have decided to join forces with existing programs in our area.

Have you heard of Parent's Place in White Plains?  It offers very affordable drop in groups for mothers and infants as well as toddlers and preschool children.  Care takers and fathers are welcome in groups other than the infant group.  Parents Place is staffed by MSW's and early childhood specialists and is funded by several grants. Although this program differs somewhat from my original dream (it doesn't deal with the pre-natal needs at all) it is still a wonderful (and under utilized) resource for women and children in central westchester.  They are currently working on a web site...you may be able to find them at www.parentsplace.org

Keep me posted on your dream.  I would love to see something like this available AND AFFORDABLE for all women in westchester!

As a still relatively newcomer to area, I am finding that at least in
Lower Westchester there is not a central center where new mom's can
gathering and meet with other women at the same stage of parenting. I
guess I am envisioning a Real Birth type center in Westchester. As
connected and established practioners, I am looking for your feedback
on this idea. If anyone would care to weigh in, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

There actually is! Full Circle Family Care in White Plains. Not as extensive as Realbirth but definitely close. Take a look on their website...

Agreed - Full Circle is indeed a very similar model to Real Birth, and an extraordinarily wonderful place!...

Full Circle is a wonderful resource but VERY limited in terms of offering especially for parents of non-newborns. If it could expand great but at the moment...
