Katherine,
I was just thumbing through this post-pregnancy handbook I have and saw a
section on
relieving hemerroids. I thought you might like to pass this info on to your
client. I can
bring you a full copy of the 5 pages at the meeting on Tuesday. Here's what I
found most
helpful and is excerpted from "The Post Pregnancy Handbook", by Sylvia Brown
with Mary
Dowd Struck, R.N., M.S., C.N.M.:
* accupuncture, especially when accompanied by Moxa has a remarkable effect on
hemerrhoidal swelling
*to prevent constipation- do not eat fatty products, and keep dairy products and
animal
proteins to a minimum. Try to eat red meat only once a week.
* it is important to keep taking natural laxatives or stool softeners (not
paraffin based) in a
systematic way unti your stools have been normal for 2 weeks.
* avoid hot baths
* yellow dock, dandelion, Nettle, and Oat Straw are all helpful in controlling
hemerroids
* Make sure your diet includes plenty of garlic, onion, parsley, ginger, and
dandelion root.
* an infusion of witch hazel, plantain, marshmallow root, and oak bark can be
used on
compresses to soothe burning and itching hemerroids. Pilewort ointment also is
available
in many health food stores.
* supplement your diet daily with 1 to 2 grams of Vitamin C
