Hello Pix- Thank you for writing back! I heard from John Talbird who said that
inpatient care is on hold until the hospital reopens. I started a discussion
here on the PCUSA Haiti site:
http://pcusahaitinetwork.ning.com/forum/categories/mission-trips/listForCategory

Thanks for your help!

Lyle,

As you may or may not realize at this point, working with folks who
have a heart for Haiti is like trying to herd cats in a room full of
rocking chairs with a dog on the loose. (BIG DOG!)

I will be able to keep folks aware and connected (as they may choose
to be on their own) but I am not always privy to who/when were and
for that matter even WHY folks are going.

Believe me, I do understand the frustrations you have when people
reply the way I am doing.

May I suggest that you send or begin a discussion group on the
network site.
The HSC connections will be thorough the Guest House Manager e-mail
address. I HOPE I have forwarded to you as well.
If my old brain was not in gear, here it is again:

Grace and peace,
Pix

Hi Pix,
Thank you so much for your response, and for the invitation to the PCUSA
Haiti Mission Network. That is going to be a great resource. I was
asking about surgical teams because I would like to update the Medical
Mission Exchange (www.mmex.org) site. In order to add the trips listed
on the Google calendar I just need to know what kinds of doctors will be
on each team.

Could the teams scheduled to go to HSC contact me with this
information? Or, they can go to www.mmex.org and enter the trip
information. It is quick, and could help other medical mission
organizations connect patients with providers.

The MMEX database is useful because it lists medical mission trips far
ahead of their scheduled dates. This makes it possible for providers to
connect with one another to arrange the most appropriate care for their
patients. The ultimate beneficiaries of the information accessed and
shared at Medical Mission Exchange are the patients themselves.

Sincerely,
Lyle

Hello!

HSC recently created an online calender that we wanted to make
available to you so that you could check the availability of the HSC
Guest House in Leogane. The calender can be accessed at this link:

http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=hscguesthouse%
40gmail.com&ctz=America/Port-au-Prince.

The calender will be kept up to date on all the mobile clinics and
events happening at the guest house. Please send all questions
regarding guest house availability and reservations to this e-mail
account: hscguesthouse@gmail.com. Thank you so much, and we hope to
see all of you in Leogane soon!

Sincerely,

The HSC Crew
(a.k.a. Kara, Nathan, Courtney, and Pere Fanfan)

Try the link below, watch that the whole line is highlighted, if you
click on it. If the line has wrapped to more than one line you may have
to copy and paste it into your browser.

http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=hscguesthouse%40gmail.com&ctz=America/Port-au-Prince.

I will try to add a direct link to the web site soon.

Pix,
I believe that it is a good news for Haiti, but we have to do our best for not having a big debt like that in the future.

$1.2 billion in debts canceled to help Haiti
By JONATHAN M. KATZ – 10 hours ago

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Three international organizations
canceled $1.2 billion of Haiti's debt Tuesday, freeing up millions of
dollars each year for the deeply impoverished Caribbean nation that
is beset by humanitarian crises.
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund said their boards
decided this week to forgive Haiti's obligations to the two
organizations, a move that triggered previously announced debt relief
from the Inter-American Development Bank.
The actions erased nearly two-thirds of Haiti's outstanding debt. As
of April, Haiti owned more than $1.9 billion, according to the
Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research.
"This is a pretty big victory, definitely. This is what we've been
wanting," said Dan Beeton, an analyst with the center, said by phone
from Washington. "It's a shame it had to take so long."
Until now, the desperately poor country, where more than 80 percent
of its approximately 9 million people live on less than $2 a day, has
been paying about $1.6 million each month to the World Bank,
according to debt relief advocates at the Jubilee USA Network.
A significant portion of the debt forgiven Tuesday dates back to
loans that lined the pockets of Haiti's dictators, especially
Francois "Papa Doc" and Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier, whose father-
son dynasty ended in a 1986 popular rebellion.
Haiti was added to the World Bank and IMF's debt cancellation program
for heavily indebted poor countries in 2006. The Inter-American
Development Bank previously approved debt relief for Haiti, pending
its completion of that program.
But it took several years for Haiti to implement reforms that
included auditing government accounts, adopting a law on public
procurement and strengthening tax and customs administration, as well
as debt reporting. Other steps included approving an AIDS prevention
and treatment plan, financing school tuition for children and
improving immunization rates.
That was accomplished in spite of years of turmoil, including last
year's food riots that toppled the prime minister and four tropical
storms that killed some 800 people and caused more than $1 billion in
damage.
Finance Minister Daniel Dorsainvil praised the announcement in a
statement issued through the World Bank, saying the millions freed up
from debt payments "will help us invest in growth and poverty
reduction programs."
Others were skeptical about the benefits of the move. Haitian
economist Kesner Pharel said debt forgiveness will make it far more
difficult for Haiti to get new loans, impeding the government's
ability to finance much-needed improvements in infrastructure and
other areas.
"I don't see the government for the next five to 10 years having a
lot of money. It's a bad idea. It's a cost, not a benefit," Pharel said.
Haiti is the 26th country to have its debt forgiven under the
initiative, a list that includes Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Honduras and
Bolivia.

While driving home tonight, I tuned in to NPR and there was  (Dr.s) David Walmer and Delsin Maricia doing an interview (sounded like recently in N. Carolina). Lot's about Leogane and Family Health Ministries.........You might be able to hear it by going to the NPR website.........Was in Leogane week before last doing well repairs with Albert. We (CNP/LWI) are closing in on our 100th water well rehabilitation (first well repaired in Fall '03) which should take place this week. And while we were at it, we bought a truck - a "Haitian tale" unto itself!

I pray this effort has been God's - and that it is helping the Leoganese become healthier.....
