Yes...I can understand the challenges and opportunities of Haiti
mission work, but I do have questions:
1. With the present "insecurity of the county worse than it was a
year ago", what if any additional steps are being taken to guard the
safety of mission workers?
2. With the loss of Joseph Dorvil and the additiona loss of
trucks/cars, what is the present and long term status of the
Filariasis and Nutrition Programs?
3. If the "majority of Haitian colleagues have left for greater
safety", is it safe to sent mission workers from the USA...short term
and/or long term?
4. What steps are we taking, or should be taken, with the present
goverment to unsure the safty of mission workers and to gain support
for the Haitian professionals?
5. Should we a mission workers to the poor of Haiti provide our time,
talent and funding to Haitian professionals for benefits of
retirement, health and life insurance, death benefits...etc?
6. Should we provide funding support for the HSC Director General in
an amount over $35,000 when all of the vehicles of HSC are in need of
repair or replacement?
7. Why do we not get a report on these subjects direct from PCUSA and
the HSC Director General?
8. With so much support coming from mission workers from outside
Haiti, what voice is speaking for us to the goverment of Haiti?
9. What is the "Mission Statement" (objectives and goals) of each
group providing mission workers to Haiti?
10. What about the nursing school, the orphanages, Project
Compassion, Haiti Fund Inc, CODEP, Terre Blanche, The Siloe Project,
Children's Medical Missions, Pasapa, Ecole Saint Vincent, Bon Repos
School for the Deaf, Centre d'Education Speciale, Plan International,
Bon Kote Foundation, Organization de Blenfaisance, Tom Dooley
Heritage, Public Welfare Foundation, Peace Corps Haiti, St. Vincent,
Ti Foye, Ti Komes, Albert Schweitzer Hospital, Partners in Health,
Hopital Boucan Carre, and many others, these I have worked with and
know.
The dreams for Haiti are great but are limited by reality. From
locations like Zanmi Lasante, Gonaives, Vallieres, Leogane,
Carrefour, Petit Goave, Jacmel, Hinche, Boucan Carre, Deschapelles,
Mirebalais, Les Cayes and yes even Port-au-Prince there are medical
centers, schools, orphanages, food distribution centers, and of
course churches, to help the people of Haiti but the need is so great
many go without…many suffer needlessly and many die. We must decide
what our mission in Haiti will be. We must channel our efforts
towards those narrow areas we have chosen to provide our limited
funds, time and talents.
thanks for reviewing these question, and thinking of the overall plan
to provide help to the Haitian people. My days are filled with payer
for these people and I never stop trying to find how we can help with
God's will....this is truly a journy of faith.
