I am bringing a team of medical people to Leogane on Sunday to run rural clinics for a week. I have heard nothing from Fr. Deravil and we plan on coming. Cancelling at this late date is unthinkable, but bringing a group of 12 people into an unworkable situation is also unthinkable. If anyone knows or learns more, let me hear either via this news group or through my email.

Subject: [hscenews] Situation at HSC
Friends,
I usually wait for others to post their thoughts on this site first.
However, I would like to let you know that there is a difficult
situation transpiring at HSC. Rather than your receiving bits and
pieces of "information" I felt it best to give you some basics and I
will add more information as any confirmed facts are shared by folks
in Leogane.
Here is what I understand to be happening.
#1 There is a situation of leadership conflict within the hospital
administration that has risen to the level where the police were
called in to protect the hospital and keep apart those in conflict
with each other. Emotions were and still are running extremely high
at this point.
#2 The community has been aroused and have taken a stand that we are
praying will NOT result in any bloodshed or in rioting that could
cause harm to either the hospital or any people connected to the
hospital on either side of the dispute.
#3 The nursing school students have all been taken safely to the
school and Dean Alcindor is in charge of that situation.
#4 I have had word that the hospital is in a lock-down situation.
#5 The Children's Nutrition Program staff have safely left the area.
#6 Albert Point du Jour is safe at his home
#7 As of now, no one has been physically harmed or any damage done
to the hospital except for the usual graffiti on the walls that seems
to appear whenever there is conflict.
Numerous phone conversations are going back and forth with those who
are directly involved in the incident and with those trying to
discover exactly what is going on. At this point, I would ask you to
hold all the people in Leogane and especially the people enmeshed in
this struggle in your prayers.
May the Peace of Our Lord prevail in the hearts, minds and actions of
everyone involved. May the Holy Spirit bring calm to an inflamed
situation.
Let's keep this site as a point for sharing ONLY information that is
grounded in fact. You will be kept informed as things are clear and
accurate.
This is a frustrating and heartbreaking time. Let cool heads prevail.
Grace and peace,
Pix
