Over the years we have been advised not to travel on a passport that was
going to expire within the next 6 months. I suspect that with the
continuing efforts to increase security, such as needing a passport to
get into Canada, the airlines and custom folks are enforcing regulations
they let slide in the past. I don't know why 6 months but it's the
government.

It just reinforces the need to plan ahead and keep your passport
current. Be sure to remind less frequent travelers to check expiration
dates. I think they advise 4 to 6 weeks for processing in this country,
who knows what the processing time in Haiti might be.

A lot of countries have that rule - I know from recent experience that India and Kenya are two. I believe I remember Israel also having that rule. The six...
