Friends,
This was brought to my attention today. It was listed in the
Presbyterian Mission Yearbook for Prayer for August 22, 2007.

I admit to having missed it. I was on my way home from Haiti on that
day.
Grace and peace,

Heartland Presbytery
The 108 congregations of Heartland Presbytery are the spiritual home
for 25,364 Presbyterians. Ranging in size from 8 members to 5,000,
these churches are welcoming new fellowships into their midst, as
people come from north and south, from east and west, to join them at
our Lord’s Table. The Korean United Presbyterian Church of Kansas is
the “senior member” among the immigrant congregations in Heartland
Presbytery. The current presbytery Moderator, Elder Sunok Pai, is a
member of that congregation.
The Sudanese Community Church in Kansas City, Missouri, affiliated
with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Episcopal Church, holds
services in both Arabic and Dinka. It has also established itself as
the headquarters for the Sudanese Council of Churches in the United
States.
The Neema (Grace) Fellowship is the only church in the Kansas City
metropolitan area that worships in the Swahili language. Under the
leadership of the Rev. David Nzioka, a pastor from the Presbyterian
Church of East Africa, it is a growing and vibrant faith community.
Christ Presbyterian Church, established as an Italian mission more
than seventy-five years ago, is now home to the Haitian Community
Fellowship. Sunday morning services are bilingual, in English and
French Creole; Sunday afternoon’s worship is in Creole.
Grandview Park Presbyterian Church holds bilingual worship services
in English and Spanish. One of the church’s pastors is English-
speaking; the other, born in Guatemala, speaks Spanish. Formerly
entirely Anglo in membership, the church has a rapidly growing
Hispanic/Latino membership.
The newest immigrant fellowship is the small Taiwanese Presbyterian
Fellowship. The only Taiwanese-speaking Christian fellowship in the
Kansas City metropolitan area, its members appreciate the hospitality
extended by the members of the Leawood Presbyterian Church in Kansas,
where they worship.
