Dr. Jack Lafontant reporting personal car and driver hijacked   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #77 of 1129 |

All,

I spoke to Jack this morning (Tuesday). The car was hijacked.
Initially, the driver was told to drive, but after about 500 meters,
he was released. Jack said that the driver was mentally traumatized
but now seems to be OK. Jack has talked to the police and was told
that 15 vehicles were hijacked yesterday. His vehicle had not been
recovered, as yet, but the police are hopeful. They do recover 30-
40% of the hijacked vehicles. The incident happened near Jack's
parents house in PAP. The driver was alone and we are all thankful
that neither Jack, JuJu nor their daughter were in the car at the
time of the incident.

Jack's assessment is that the overall situation, while still
unstable, is better now than it was 2 months ago. He is still
positive about groups coming to HSC.

Jess Hornsby
just received a telephone call from Dr. Jack Lafontant reporting that
his personal car and driver had been hijacked by six men with
submachines guns. Jack was very distraught and the telephone
connection on his cell phone was not very good, but it appears that
he was on his way to Port-au-Prince to try to find the driver -
apparently the driver was not harmed and after being released, found
some way to call Jack. Jack was in route to find him and to report
the incident to the police.
