Dear Members,
I am trying to let you know, not every places in Haiti are
dangerous. I can understand how sad and heartbreaking, and aweful it
is due to several events happened the last few years and the last
past months. I talked over the phone and also chat with my brother
who lives in P-A-P, a future engeenier@public" Faculte Des
Sciences "of Haiti, told me that the situation is not worse as it
were before. I can imagine how fearful it is to you due to those
tragic phenomenuns, but would like to inform you not all the places
in Haiti are unstable. According to what I have been told is that
the situation get pretty calmed down those past two weeks with the
help of so many UN troops that surround the country and the most
dangerous cities. In the past few months , gunshootings have been
heard @some places in LEOGANE, But later on the situation was calmed
down with the help of the national force. To the best of my
knowledge, there is no fear at all for any mission group if they
are going to stay in Leogane in particular but I recommend that they
have one or two translators with them on the way back to the Air-
port or anyone that can serve them as a back-up. A group from Ann
Arbor, Michigan has resently left USA to travel to Haiti to
inaugurate the nursing school in LEOGANE.
Leogane is one of the places that remains so peaceful however
aggravated the situation in Haiti used to, Now with the help of the
UN troops and the national police, we are no able with fear to go to
work and school said some of my friends in P-A-P as well as in
Leogane.
Sincerely yours,
International student @ south western Michigan college.
Ex- mobil clinic coordinator/head translator@hopital ste-croix.
