Yesterday, I had a call from Dean Hilda Alcindor. She has received 32
applications, including 1 male, and expects that many more next week.
She has made good contacts with the government agencies for approval of
the program. She is working with Dr. Lafontant and staff to see that
the grounds and building are ready for the dedication and start of the
school year. She is making contact with faculty to teach the science
courses. Her housing and transportation are still not solved.
She will be working with Dr. Lafontant and Bishop Duracin on the
building dedication, scheduled for January 5. I hope to know soon what
the plans are. Classes are scheduled to start January 10, 2005.
I am putting together the list of donations specific for scholarships
so I can give that information to the Dean. She told me that tuition
will be a problem for all the students. Most will need full
scholarships. The room and board will probably be an issue as well. I
would appreciate it if you could make contacts with your local churches
or other groups to see what additional money we can come up with for
tuition, room and board, and operating costs. I hope that the Dean
shortly will have some estimates of what the charges for room and board
will be. Recently, we received a substantial gift towards operating
costs.
Please let me know:
Whether you have been able to raise any funds from your churches,
etc., for the $800 annual tuition scholarships?
Any additional success obtaining money for room and board, books,
operating expenses, etc.?
For now, until we get our own 501 (c) (3) non profit organization set
up, donations need to be made to Medical Benevolence Foundation, marked
"Haiti School of Nursing Scholarship" or "Haiti School of Nursing
Operating Fund", and sent to:
Medical Benevolence Foundation
PO Box 770636
Houston TX 77215-0636
Please continue to keep the work of Dean Alcindor and others in your
prayers. Thank you.
