HAITI from the Miami Hearld -- November 18th
Owner of major hotel is reported kidnapped
PORT-AU-PRINCE - Kidnappers seized one of the owners of the Hotel
Montana, a sprawling facility high above the Haitian capital favored
by visiting dignitaries, business people, aid workers and Haitians
from abroad.
Nadine Cardozo Riedl, who co-owns the hotel with her sister, Garthe
Cardozo Stefanson, was snatched around 9 p.m. Tuesday as she traveled
in a vehicle on the road that leads to the hotel in the Port-au-
Prince suburb of Petionville.
Details of the kidnapping remained sketchy on Wednesday, but persons
close to the family said Cardozo Riedl was with her brother, Marvin,
when she was kidnapped by four assailants.
Kidnappings have grown in Haiti in recent months as Haiti struggles
to right itself and rebuild its police forces following a violent
rebellion that forced out former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
