After reading Gary's message to all of you, I tend to agree with him. But most of you that know me already know that I would. But I also think that it is a very personal decision for each of us. The problem I have had is with letting a higher authority make that decision for each of us and not allowing for the difference in our situations. I would never encourage a young person with family responsibilities to go into a situation such as Haiti presents at this time, but I resent having someone shut a person at my stage of life, with no dependents out of Haiti. I feel capable of making that decision based on my own evaluation of the circumstances and facts.

I feel that it has been unfortunate that I have had to go outside the boundaries of our denomination to continue my witness to be faithful to my calling to share the good news in Haiti. I traveled to Cap Haitian 3 times in 2005 and will go there 4 times in 2006, if God provides. There are many things about that trip that I prefer and that I feel that the crew that goes to Leogane could learn that would benefit the mobile clinics there. And there are things that are done better in Leogane. I wanted Katie Griggs to be able to visit the clinics and orphanage in Cap Haitian to observe and learn and share, but she is unable to do so because of her contract.

I have enjoyed the freedom of participating in a smaller organization with less restrictions and a more open environment to learning. I suspect that was the way things began with the mobile clinics in Leogane.

I too have been assured that we could fly from Port au Prince to Jacmel and that the road from Jacmel to Leogane is safe to travel. But I was stalemated by my inquiries as to where we might stay in Leogane with no coordinator there. I know that our safety is a big concern. I know that this is a litigation prone society. But maybe it is time that we let the people in charge know where we place our trust and put a little pressure on them to come on along for the ride and see what God can do when people trust Him under adverse circumstances.  To God be the Glory!
