Subject: [hscenews] Mission trips to Haiti

"Mission trips to Haiti discouraged"

I must disagree…..
Would PCUSA please tell me the following:

•What are the "volatile areas of Haiti" and how is this different
than it always has been.

•What and when do you mean "until peace is restored" compared to the
last 200 years.

•How many, if any Americans have been hurt and/or killed.

•Are we not making trips to Haiti to help those "Middle and lower-
class" Haitians.

•Of the 600 people killed in Haiti how many are from America.

•Please give us information of any and or all reported foreign
nationals targeted for kidnapping.

•Have any foreign national been kidnapped.

•"A massive drought that led to crop failures last year is
aggravating an economy already decimated by rampant unemployment.
Haiti is the hemisphere's poorest nation."
Yes, one of the many reasons we must go….

•Yes we have "formal partnerships with church groups in Haiti" they
need us now.

•"PC(USA) is as concerned about the Haitian church as about
its own members and missionaries."
More reason to go….

•"In some situations, an international presence deters violence and
decreases risk"
More reason to go….

•"in others, it actually increases the risk. And we think this
is one of the latter (situations)."
How please explain….

My dreams and hopes for Haiti can not be changed by the violence of a
small group of Haitians that I think still believe in God….and do not
mean any harm to Americans.
We travel to Haiti to bring help to those needing it the most. In
these times of concern and help is needed more than ever now.
Still, travel may not be for all….
but for some we must go….
God will be with you…..and with the Haitians….
Haiti is not beyond hope.
This country has been poor and in need of help for 200 years, this is
not a natural disaster, but, a man-made disaster. It does not have to
be like this....we can and must help change their course of history.

After my first trip to Haiti...I knew my life would never be the same
again. I had been forever changed....We can not leave these people
now.

The Haitian people are the hopeful people I have ever met, they place
all their hope in Jesus and Jesus has not disappointed them. Their
hope is strong in their souls and their lives. We must have hope with
them..

I think it's preferable to be wounded by the world than to sheltered
from it. To be wounded is to acknowledge the truth, to be sheltered
is to be oblivious......
