(PRESBYTERIAN PEACE INTERN)
with Latin American solidarity experience.
For the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship
The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship works to make the Presbyterian Church USA into a force for peace in the world. At the present time, the Fellowship's major projects are 1) furnishing accompaniers for those threatened by violence in the Colombia Presbyterian Church; 2)sending delegations to areas where Presbyterians are experiencing violence -- currently Israel/Palestine and Colombia; 3) maintaining a presence and a voice at meetings of the General Assembly; and 4) participating in the campaign to close the School of the Americas (WHISC) at Ft. Benning.
We are seeking a partner with experience of solidarity work in Latin America. The term will be for one year, starting not later than Sept. 1, 2005 with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
Requirements:

Some work experience in Latin America.
- Desire to engage people in thinking critically about the U. S. role and the church's role in Latin America.
- Dedication to nonviolence and ability to speak clearly about it.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Ability to travel a good part of the time.
- Willingness to take advanced nonviolence training.
- Adaptability to a simple, economical life-style.
- Willingness to take up residence near one of the principal PPF supervisors
- May be laity or clergy. (Note: The PPF cannot make pension payments.)
- Must be a member of PCUSA
Duties:
-
The Partner's primary responsibilities will be 1) to train and serve as an ACCOMPANIER for one month in Colombia, in coordination with the Worldwide Ministries Division; 2) to recruit, coordinate, and do follow-up for a PPF delegation to Colombia; and 3) to speak at as many Presbyterian colleges, seminaries, and churches as possible.
Other tasks:

Being an enthusiastic speaker and writer about the peace movement in Latin America and the role of the churches there in the nonviolent pursuit of social justice.

Representing PPF and advertising its work at major Presbyterian conferences (General Assembly, Youth, Colombia Mission Network, etc.).

Attending the November vigil to close the School of the Americas at Ft. Benning, GA, and helping to represent PPF there.

Being on designated conference calls related to PPF committee work.

Cooperating with the Washington Office, the Worldwide Ministries Division, and the Peacemaking Program of PCUSA.

Seeking out opportunities to speak at presbyteries and synods, on radio/TV, etc.

Being articulate and up-to-date in making a critique of the U. S. role in Latin America.

Being articulate about the work of PPF -- about alternatives to war, the power of nonviolent action, etc.

Helping to collect data concerning PPF members, potential new members, and their interests.

Attending and reporting to the PPF National Committee at its annual meeting.
Supervision on a regular basis as arranged by the Partner's Committee.
SUPPORT in securing speaking engagements from the Partner's Committee.
Remuneration:
Living and travel expenses plus a modest stipend.
