Hi All,
This is Joe Markee and I'm in Haiti at the moment and will give you our 'quick treatment for H-pylori'. Voila the one-day regimine:
1. Amoxicillin 500mg capsules #16; 2 grams QID, NOT to be swallowed, rather empty the powder of the 2 grams into juice or water in order to coat the gastric mucosa
2. Flagyl 500 mg QID
3. Pepto-Bismol 2 po QID
4. Any PPI (protein pump inhibitor); we use omeprazole 20 mg BID
Our success is probably in the 65-75% range (we have not studies yet to test this number). J of Infectious Diseases 2003, 188:1263-1279, quotes a recurrence rate of 30%; my personal feeling is that it provides relief for more than 7-8 months; that's not backed up either with facts!
Bonne chance

I don't, but hope you can check on Joseph Sainvil while you are there. He has been having some prostate problems and I think he was headed for surgery. Joseph is well known around HSC and is an intermittent translator for the mobile clinics. Any news on him is appreciated. jv
Does anyone out there know a quick treastment for H Pylori? When I was in Leogane in October, Harold Latta told me about a quick treatment, which I wrote down and can't find. We're leaving Sunday and are bringing plenty of PPI's, antibiotics and antacids, some combination of which should do the trick. I know the standard regimens--I'm hoping for quicK.
