Dear Friends,
I am blissful to know that the board is working hard to have a new Director at HSC. That will be a great news for all Leoganais and others who used to go to HSC looking for cure. I also appreciate the way you are thinking of Haitians, doing your best to help them have a better living.

Best Regards

Gérard J. Paraison

Bonjour Katie,

How good to hear from you!  We would so love to see you and meet your sweet little girl!

The concerns expressed in the article are the concerns of CNP Board in regard to those mobile clinics that we sponsor. We are considering a program that would center on three or four villages where there would be follow-up by a team every three months.  This would allow for more appropriate treatments for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. and we could follow other chronic illness as well in these selected villages.   The down side is that we will not reach as many people.   It will be great for the villages that are chosen, but sad for all the others.

With HSC essentially closed except for meager out patient care and emergency care, the Leogane area is hungry for medical help.  Chuck and I were there Jan. 27-24 and we did two clinics on the hospital compound grounds near the chapel.   One day we saw 250 patients.  On the last day, we saw 350!   We had three dentists working.   Our three physician stations were increased by two with a couple of Haitian physicians who saw patients with us.  Mitch and another team were there two weeks later, and had a similar experience at HSC.     Frankly, CNP has been a lifeline for the hospital .

We are all hopeful that there will be a new Hospital Director installed at HSC this spring who is qualified to do the job.  A candidate that appears to be experienced and competent is being considered by the HSC board and the PCUSA at the present time.  So keep your fingers crossed!    If he is approved, I think we will see a complete overhaul of the hospital.

Take care!

Martha

Bonjour to all! I hope that this message finds all of you happy,
healthy, and blessed in this new year. I feel so very disconnected
from Haiti, although it is only on the other side of the island. I
also miss having regular contact with many of you, but as we all know,
time is never on our side!

I stumbled across an email this afternoon that sheds light on some very
valid points concerning medical missions and I wanted to share.

All my best,

Katie Griggs-Hyacinthe
