Re: [hscenews] Hopital St Croix

And I was just there 2 weeks ago and did stay at the guest house at HSC. It was great, there were just two of us there. Food was good, coffee ready on time, and plenty of Prestige. And, get this, there was some water pressure in the showers. Two new shower heads and at Chatalo on the roof, so no more relying solely on the generator for water.....

While we were there the Hospital had 6 boarding patients. I met the two Cuban doctors, a man and woman. It is still very dreary around there with no sign of impending change. I don't think the new Hospital board has met since March and this is very frustrating to many of us.....I, personally, do not see any change on the horizon. Happily, our ministries are proceeding (LWI and CNP) with lots of energy. We can only pray that those who ultimately have the say so on the hospital will find the wisdom to bring in outside help!!  jv

Dear Tom,
Hospital St Croix is continuing to experience difficult times.
It is my understanding that at present, HSC is open.
The Ministry of Health has placed two Cuban doctors and one or two
nurses at HSC and there is 24 hour coverage on a limited capacity.

Concerning groups, I suggest you be in contact with Pere Deravil. <
jackdera@hotmail.com>
Pere Deravil is the General Director of HSC.
When I and several other individuals visited HSC and the nearby
nursing school in early May, the Guest House was receiving visitors
and we were welcomed by Pere Deravil and very well cared for by
Madame Deravil and the guest house staff.

There was a meeting (March 26, 2008) of persons invited by Bishop
Duracin who were asked by him to constitute a governing board for
HSC. At that meeting, a set of bylaws was presented for review. A
more specific set of bylaws for HSC are still under consideration by
those persons asked to sit on the board and a conversation is
continuing with the Bishop.

The PCUSA's position remains as it has been for many years. (since
1969) The PCUSA has a formal partnership with the Episcopal Church of
Haiti in which it is engaged in ministries of education, health care,
agricultural and self-development.
With all partner churches with whom the PCUSA is engaged, there are
guidelines and agreements concerning funds that are transfered to any
partner/ministries. Timely reports and strategic plans are part of
the agreement. The PCUSA does not abandon our partners when times
are difficult.
I have attached a copy of the Partnership agreement of the PCUSA and
the EEH both in French and in English so anyone who is reading this
site may review them.

Concerning the CNP (Children's Nutrition Program), I would refer you
to Ashley Aakesson, Executive Director of CNP <aaakesson@cnphaiti.org>

It is unfortunate that news is not frequent on the HSCenews site.
Occasionally reports of visitors are posted. However, it is not as
lively a site as some years ago.

Continue to pray that not only HSC but all of Haiti will have the
needs of the people met. May we, as Christian brothers and sisters,
continue to work heart to heart and shoulder to shoulder.

Grace and peace to you,

Pix Mahler

I understand that groups are no longer welcome.
Is the CNP still in operating....
Where does the USA church groups stand on this subject.
Why have we avoided this subject.
