Proposed Template Letter for members to submit request for Centennial Commemoration Howard R Hughes US Postage Stamp:
United States Postal Service Stamp Services 1735 N Lynn Street, Suite 5012 Arlington, Virginia 22209-6432
Dear United States Postal Service Stamp Services:
Please accept for consideration this request for introduction of a US Postal Commemoration Stamp for late Mr. Howard Robard Hughes, Jr.,(Dec 5 1905-Apr 5 1976). Mr. Hughes is a very distinguished American: Aviation development pioneer; Movie Producer-Director; Deep Sea and Outer Space Equipment Designer and Producer; recipient of Harmon (1937); Collier (1938); Congressional Gold Medal (1939); Octave Chanute (1940); Aviation Awards and installation in the Aviation Hall of Fame (1973). I submit this request as a member of Internet groups with
programs aimed at promoting historical, educational and memorial programs to commemorate the achievements and contributions of the late Mr. Hughes in many areas of Science, Industry and Philanthropy during his lifetime, all of which have redounded to great honors and benefits for his country and the people of the whole world during the greater part of the 20th Century. Mr. Hughes was indeed one of the outstanding figures of his time throughout the world.
Suggested designs of the proposed Commemoration Stamp is as sent in cover packet from our groups of July 31, 2005, which was an enlarged depiction photograph of the Congressional Gold Medal face and obverse views, taken from the frontispiece of the memorial book: The Analytical American History of the Life and Times of Howard Robard Hughes, Jr., ISBN 0-615-11829-1, of 1993- 1999. The picture of the Congressional Gold Medal is the only known factual depiction of this unique
medal known to exist, and was obtained from the Treasury Department United States Mint specifically for use as frontispiece to the memorial book. The book is a memorial work limited in distribution to select libraries and students-scholars.
While it is known that requests of this kind should normally be submitted up to 3 years in advance of proposed issue date, it is urgently requested that this policy be waived in this particular case, so that the centennial commemoration date may be realized. I ask that Mr. Hughes' truly exceptional achievements and contributions be given special consideration in expediting the production and issuance of this very important memorial commemorative stamp.

Month of August is a new beginning for research and study
Much interest is to be given to updating views of
people and events connected with Howard's life and business
operations.
Simon Ramo and Dean Wooldridge, outstanding figures in the
Hughes story, have been veery low profile as biographic
media reports have been concerned. Little is known of how
they came to be associated with Howard Hughes industries
especially the Hughes Aircraft Company. A review of the writings of
these high level physics engineers should be made.
William Frank Gay and Nadine Henley a;so figure prominently
with the Hughes personal life and business saga. Yet little
has been covered in media reports about these very influential
people in owaqrds private life and business affairs.
Research and reports are invited. I shall report my own research
findings as they mature.

I know that this would be a great ebay thing to sell, but there must be
a free way of getting these audio and video, or am I just a
nucklehead..LOL If anyone does have any of these media presentations,
it would make for a great file post here.

Thanks Van I know I don't post much but I have read that book, that's
what got me started on this question. I read it a while ago, but for
years I have had a fasination with Hughes, I don't really know why,
but I do. Thanks for all of your input into the group, I always look
foward to reading your posts, even if I don't agree with all of
them...LOL, but that is what it's all about. No really, you have a
lot of info that most others don't, and you make for a good refrence.
Thanks Again,

CD and vinyl recordings of HRH being interviewed whilst piloting the
Hercules (usually available for $10) and the 1972 telephone interview
with reporters regarding the authenticity of the autobiography are
regularly listed on ebay.
It is of great concern to me, in my research work, to
encounter unreasonable difficulyies in finding information
about characters who played primary major roles in the
howard hughes story. They held high positions in high level
National Defense work in Hughes companies-but little is known and can
be found about them. Howard is claimed to have been 'reclusive'
and afflicted with 'obsessive-compulsive behavior' syndrome,
but Henley(Marshall), Gay, Davis, Maheu, Jane Peters, Jack Real-
all are mysteriously misssing from media coverage reports.
I inquired at Tonopah County Nevada Court Records Office, and there
is no record of a marriage there between Howard Hughes and Jean
Peters.
Other writers have reported the same thing. The whole story of
Howard-Jean Peters meeting has several differing versions; her entry
into
the movies as a star at the beginning is far differently reported
than what I remember to have been the case. Nobody seems interested
in bringing up the Ramo-Wooldridge events affecting Hughes Aircrasft
Company. This is strange indeed because these men, reputedly
America's most Brilliant Scientists of the times when they were
employed in key Hughes Aircraft Company positions (and after their
resignation?? or dismissal?? from HAC. Ramo's book "The business of
Science" sheds a great deal of unmistakeable light on this.
And now, Mr Real comes out as being Howard's best bosom buddy,
while massive efforts were being exerted by "executives" to
take over ownership controls(!! of Howard's Privately owned
properties all over. Anybody thought to check up on the
Ramo-Wooldridge authored books of the time? If so I haven't heard
of it, so I checked up myself. Astounding results from which
conclusions ought to be drawn. I have definite impressions from
the writers' own words. If the impressions are rightly considered
WE ALL NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT.
I appreciate hearing ALL well considered views and opinions, so long
as they aren't "way out of sight!" Howard was a REAL MAN, not a
demigod or psychedelic will o' the wisp.
Dear Duc-This is my third attempt to respond to your post.
Don't know what's interferring with my transmittals, but
here's tring again:
Michaek Drosnin's Citizen Hughes urports to be record of the "hughes
written" notes taken in the Romaine Street Burglary 1970. In my
opinion they're all expert forgeries, but that's up to the reader-
investigator to decide. Good Hunting Van

I'm sure I answered The Duc's post as soon as I read it, but my
response isn't shown on this posting list. Mot the First time
this has happened. Who is taking liberty of interfering with
posts on this Group-and why? Quit it already.
Dear Duc-I mentioned in post responding to yours that the book:
Citizen Hughes" by writer Michael Drosnin, claimed to have come
into possession of the goods stolen in the Romaine Street
Burglary, including full set of Hughes' communications while he
was the duct tape occupant of that Desert In Penthouse in
Las Vegas. Drosnin published many of the "Hughes written notes"
in his book.
It was also reported that the Mexican State Police in Acapulco
confiscated the Mormon Mafia Files when they took over the
"Hughes suite" at the Acapulco Princess Hotel in 1976. Noone
knows what happened to these papers and Mexico Police aren't talking
about it.
My own opinion is that most (if not all) of these purported to be
Hughes papers are in fact forgeries. They were made by expets,
that's for sure-but tell me how a man with 6+" fingernails could
possibly have written these boxfulls of papers!
What needs to be done is that an investigation of the Ramo-Wooldridge
activities at Hughes Enterprises 1940s through all the way up to
now needs to be done. Not likely, because the background of these two
fanmous (but unknown) has been covered up at very high business and
political levels.

part and should be followed by the membership of this group
individually and collectively! MY DW Anamatilde proposed
several years ago that the US Postal Authorities design and issue a

24 December 2005 is the centenary of the birth of Howard Hughes. I have
e-mailed the US Postal Service to enquire if they will be releasing a
commemorative postage stamp or First Day Cover in recognition of his
achievements in many fields.
As a memorial-education oriented group, members have special
opportunities that ordinary researchers have difficulty in
operating under. How to have access to 'copyrighted' material
what material is copyrighted? There are definite exemptions from
copyright restrictions in educational, charitable and memorial works
and that iw precisely what kind of research-writing that this
group is engaged in.
Just a reminder that may be of interest Van J Simmons Owner
Here 'tis Sunday again and I missed the vote!
Don't expect my vote would have counted in this one
anyway. Seems to me the sponsors decided the outcome at the beginning
and now we'll have to live with their cherce of 'greatest
American. George-Abe-FDR-HRH-Eleanor-MacArthur-Teddy R
won't be there. Jesus, either. Nor VJS (me) to be sure.
The world will never be like I'd want it to be, apparently,
but I've got a hold on some great stuff and don't intend to
ever turn loose. My son John Stephen is my hope of the
future, wants to grow up to be a marine. I know how he feels
and hope against hope he doesn't find out how I felt when I
was a "boot" at Parris Island...We need Engineers and he's
good at math-straight A's in 6th grade. He's a CAP Cadet
and carries responsibility with great humor. He has studied
about Howard hughes and has formed his own opinions about
the man--greatest American of the 20th Century.
The Evergreen Aviation Museum, McMinnville Oregon has released a DVD
titled 'Dream to Fly'. It tells the story of the Hercules. The synopsis
is "Howard Hughes and the Flying Boat: They said the Spruce Goose would
never fly. Against all odds, Howard Hughes proved them wrong. Dream to
Fly features never before seen archival film and photographs,
interviews with members of the flight and Engineer Crews, exclusive
restoration footage and special, behind-the-scenes access inside the
Flying Boat. Narrated by Walter Cronkite. Color and b&w, approx. 2 hrs.
DVD."
It is available in 'all region' format and I have ordered a copy from
the US as it is not obtainable in the UK. I am particularly looking
forward to seeing the archive footage and interviews with the crew. The
website address is www.sprucegoose.org.
I'll be setting up for the Discovery Channel program to
elect the greatest American during this first week of june 1905.
I've decided to vote for Howard Robard Hughes Jr. baserd on the
contributions that he made to make life better for all of us during
this hi-tech age of development.
Recall: We complain here in America when we have to pay over $2.00
per gallon for gasoline fuel. Howard Hughes' developments in making
it
possible for us to have transportation and other fuel, when given
recognition, clearly show that We americans and people all over the
whole world owe Howard Hughes more for making possible large
quantities of fuel, at affordable cost, than any other person or group
in the world. We for whom private automobiles have become a normal
thing in the course of our lives everyday, owe this great blessing to
Howard Hughes, not only for fuel to power our automobiles, but for
devises designed to make it easy for automobile operators to operate
and safely control these multi-hundred horsepower machines equipped
with power assist devices,(with fingertip control) power brakes,
steering. automatic gears. Metallurgy, essential to construction of
everything requiring metal, from nails to cannon barrels for military
weapons-is a revolutionary Hughes Tool Company development that has
enriched our lives and our nation. In every area of human
achievement, in the air, on land and sea, in outer space,Howard Hughes
has left his country and his people-and people everywhere, a very
important legacy for the berrer living styles thast we have come to
enjoy (or, sadly in many cases, take for granted).
Thank You Howard Robard Hughes! We LOVE YOU!

Just received, reviewes above documentary DVD> I find
it follows the usual brainwqash trend of "What a great guy...BUT...
and then goes on to undermine everything greatvabout him. The over 4
hour 'documentary' has some great footage on the 1938 Round the World
Flight, the movie filming sequences; but it falls far short of
depicting the Aviation Accomplishments with any enthusiasm; the
"spruce goose" mentions were of the usual put down type as were
mentions of other aircraft development work. The narrator,Raymond
Fowler, was doggedly fixed on making the usual indecency hardly
veiled suggestions concerning Howard's relationships with the many
movie starlets that he was associated with-from jean harlow on.
Fowler, it needs to be borne in mind, was the psychologist who
performed the 'psychological autopsy for the Hughes Estate litigation
in 1986. Imagine that, a psychological profile on a man he'd never
met met-ten years after his death. But that is the usual story
on "Hughes
Experts" that is always found by those who look into the matter.
Discredited as all those "trial procedures" proved to be, they and their
their primary participants have held the limelight positions in
all information media presentations ever since Howard's murder.
Worth seeing if only to note all the omissions and draw the logical
conclusions for ones self.
Good Hunting, All! Van
This group's link with the Boomers International Group
expands our capabilities to advance research history
way beyond our up to now expectations. I urge interested
members to actively review all of the Howard Hughes Groups
and join in the effort to make facts of the Howard Hughes story
(minus the sensationalist-dehumanize the man writers that have
filled research libraries with false reports) take on a realistic
position in regards to protecting the integrity of history, historians,
and the people who significantly make history during the course
of their lives.
The Howard Hughes the Genius Group under our friend Curtis' leadership,
has been a driving force to keep the Howard Hughes story going.
Curtis has proposed a Memorial Meeting in Houston Texas on the
next anniversary of the mtsterious death, funeral and burial of Howard
A large enough interested participating membership of supporters of this
proposal would very likely attract support of Houston Civic
organizations. I ask that all of our friends participate in this
effort and make the event to be a landmark success!
I'll personally do all I can to promote this Memorial Effort with
the proper people and officials in Houston. I'll need to have
information about numbers of people wanting to attend, their particular
accomodations, transportation, escort needs.
May I hear from you through Group postings or email letters to

Dear Friend-Thank you for another very valuable research
article that , but for your kind advices, many of us would never know
about. Much of the early Hughes Aviation development reports have
been made unavailable to American readers over the years..few ever
heard of Hercules in 4 distinct production vbersions, much less
the Henry J Kaiser plans for production of hundreds of Flying Boats
in partnership with Howard Hughes. When contractee Henry dropped out
(for reasons unexplained) Howard continued, independently, with his
own money, to fulfill the contract for 4 airships. He took a
personal active part in the constructions (as is clear from the
photographs that you mentioned). As we all ought to know, there are
24 hours in a day, while Howard's detractors still would have it that
Howard used his time designing "bras" for movie stars-with alleged
12" fingernails yet, as he allegedly wrote pages and pages of
idiotical memos to his underlings on matters notoriously against his
known character and pursuits, in a vernacular not natural to his way
of communication; for he was known to be a vrery articulate speaker
actually eloquent, though shy by nature.
Your information about the H-14 Helicopter adds to the reality of the
situation as here again Howard Hughes in the 1950s was a very
busy man, engaged in ahead of his time aviation developments, far
more than any of his contemporary 'developers". Good now to see
Boeing get its comeuppance with introduction of Europe's Aerobus!
Boeing used to deny Wide Body influence of Hercules in its 747,
saying "only thing of wood in the 747 is toothpicks in the galley-
LIARS, CHEATS THIEVES. .
I'm enjoying every minute of our refutations of the low-lifers'
past false claims and misrepresentations, as they come to be
uncovered one by one!

While browsing my collection of Howard Hughes titles, I picked up
this copy of D D Hatfield's Aircraft Series 'Howard Hughes H-4
Hercules' published in 1972. This is a 105 page paperback full of
photographs, with captions, providing a pictorial progress of the
construction of the Hercules with Howard Hughes featured in several
of the pictures. The last 8 pages are of individual portraits of
Howard Hughes at different stages of his life. Also included is the
specification and other technical data of the Hercules. D D
Hatfield's introduction states "This pictorial presentation of the
story of the Howard Hughes H-4 Hercules flying boat is intended only
as a brief history of the development and not a complete in-depth
study.....In order to clarify the background of Howard Hughes we have
included a few illustrations of his other accomplishments also
character studies of this remarkable genius." The "other
accomplishments" featured include images from the movie 'Hell's
Angels', the Boeing 100 1932, HH in front of the Northrop Gamma 1936,
the H-1 Racer, the crew of the 1938 Round the World Flight, Hughes XF-
11 1946 and the crash scene, Hughes XF-11A and the Hughes XH-17 giant
helicopter. That one man could be responsible for so many ground-
breaking projects is testament to his genius. This is a very
interesting and useful pictorial reference book and I would recommend
it to anyone interested either in Howard Hughes or aviation
development.

Must say frankly I'm surprised, disappointed in lack
of more active participation in this group. Please consider
doing something to increase membership and personal
enthusiasm to further this group's activities.
Supporting this group costs you nothing, offers positive
values of fellowship in a worthy, honorable cause, and should
serve to enhance your sense of doing something worthwhile
for the positive betterment of conditions in a world where
ideals are increasingly passed over as being impracticable
or unprofitable. There are two kinds of people in the world:
builders and Destroyers. Be a Builder.

Many thasnks for information on newly released DVD.
Hope it is available here in the USA as many members
this and other HRH clubs have expressed interest in
obtaining such information! Let's keep each other posted
about sources where such information can be obtained.
I'm counting on the memorial meeting proposed by our friend
Curtis of HH The Genius Group-for April 5-8 2006 in
Houston. Let's start talking about that to get some idea of who
wants to go-any special needs, and I'll be glad to collect
information about facilities and will try to interest civic
authorities in Houston on hosting this event in any way possible.
I'll need names, needs and numbers to be able to intelligently
present facts to get civic interest and support for this.
RSVP this list Sincerely Van

I just bought a copy of the recently re-issued, unfortunately titled,
DVD 'Howard Hughes: The Man & The Madness'. It contains some excellent
quality but all too brief archive newsreel footage from the thirties
and forties as well as film of the Hercules being moved to Long Beach
and the XH-17 giant helicopter. The duration of the DVD is 98 minutes
however the majority of this time is taken up with interviews with
Robert Maheu, James Bacon, various authors and personal aides and
concentrates more on the latter years of Howard Hughes' life.
It is a useful addition to the library of Howard Hughes' DVDs, if only
for the archive newsreels.
