Another HH Group that I have been associated with: Howard Hughes the
Genius (founder a gentleman from Canada) has listed some very
interesting memorabilia and information. Membership (20) has been
silent for a long time.....founder's name no longer appears on the
list and I get no responses from inquiries. I am concerned at the
situation where this once very active group is now totally
uncommunicative. I am continuing to try to get information from
anybody who knows anything about this group.
I have set up 3 Groups, each with volunteer member/s/ selected for
specific assignments and areas of research. Howard Hughes Era
Historical Research has been the most active so far; 3 members have
done extensive editorial work on the book TAAHOTL&TOHRH. The object
of this work has been to improve and prepare the original edition of
the book for a wider distribution and readership. Another of the
groups is the Van Historical Research and Publishing Company
(membership by myself at this time). (The other is the Howard Robard
Hughes Memorial Group). It may be feasible in the future to combine
these into a single group. Before this is done, however, a definite
operations plan and membership commitments shall
be required.
I have put in a great deal (over 8 years worth) of time, money, and
hard work) on this effort to memorialize a Great American. I greatly
appreciate the support that I have received from you who have helped
me to get this program started. But more effort shall be required in
the future if this project is to succeed.
It may not succeed. If it does, it shall be only because of the
extraordinary efforts of a dedicated membership to this purpose.
I have not asked "What's in it for me?" The answer to this
question is to be found when we fill our tanks with gasoline;
when we drive automobiles with power-assist steering, brakes, and
hydraulic power transmissions. When we fly the airways in safety
and comfort, and are familiar with distant lands and people. When we
enjoy a way of life that has been made possible by the developments
of Private Enterprise of the kind which Howard Hughes and his father
were the foremost exemplars and champions.
Let us get this program going. I shall expect positive suggestions
and recommendations from each of you (and myself). We are not many.
This is a select group and only dedicated people can carry out the
missions ahead that are to be accomplished: The mission is to
establish a suitable Memorial to Howard Robard Hughes. All Americans
owe him this. Let's Roll! Sincerely Van J Simmons
