Dear friends,
It turns out that, this Thursday, June 8, 2006, a former bodyguard
employed by Howard Hughes named Jerry Bell will hold an exhibition in
Nuuanu, Hawaii, and it will focus on Mr. Hughes's accomplishments in
the field of aviation. Mr. Bell said that he was one of the people
who had to wear white gloves whenever he touched something that Mr.
Hughes would touch, so he was part of what was nicknamed "The White
Glove Gang."
It turns out that Mr. Bell authored a Hughes biography I have
never heard of before -- "Howard Hughes -- His Silence, Secrets, and
Success," which was published back in 1976.
This exhibition is very, very temporary. It might not even last
more than a week, so it doesn't come anything close to being the sort
of memorial to Mr. Hughes that Mr. Simmons wanted. However, I do
believe this is a step in the positive direction. :-)
Sincerely,
Stuart
