Dear Elaine! I am very glad to be in communication with you1
Your offer to send me information is very kind and very gratefully
accepted. You are one of those Howard Hughes Memorial Group Members
who encourage my sometimes feelings of despair that the Memorial will
ever become a suiccessful program. I have in the past provided
select individuals and libraries with a copy of the book"%The
Analytical American History of the life and times of Howard Robard
Hughes." It is a very large volume, over 1000 pages, and not easy
reading material. It was written as a Memorial, never for sale.
It is a very well researched book written more in 'training manual"
form yhan as a literary work..many readers would find it tedious
and unintertaining in style. But it does, I know from having studied
so many other of the 'Hughes Books" give perspectives of realism
not found in any other book on the subject. It was written in a
manner to chronologically relate specific Hughes facts with other
significant events beginning with the 20th Century. This because I
objected to other works' method of skipping over related events and
thus presenting events without relating to other events that probably
had significant bearing on the facts. i.e., Ramo and Wooldridge,
after demanding control over Hughes Aircraft Compny, left ( by
resigning they say) taking with them key personnel and equipment of
the HAC. The very next day an "accident" occurred resulting in major
damages to the Hercules Flying Boat-moored inside its protective
naintenance place inside the Geodesic Dome at Long Beach Harbor. I
see possibilities of foul play in these events. Other such
'coincidences' occur in the course of the chronology, i.e.,
Actor Lee J Cobb, a personal friend of Howard's died on the day
before Howard was noved from the Bahamas to Mexico. Only when taken
in chronological order do such events call attention
to 'coincidences' that should be examined.
If you'd be interested in reading this book, your Librarian can have
the Temple Texas Library send it on loanout for the cost of postage.
In future, when I can get enough time to prepare a set from my
mastersheet manuscript, I want to present you with a copy of this book
in appreciation for your demonstrated human decency in supporting
efforts to establish a Hughes Memorial.
May I hear more from you again?
Sincerely Van J Simmons
